Join Decatur’s Complete Count Committee!

The City of Decatur is forming a Complete Count Committee (CCC) to increase awareness about the 2020 Census and motivate fellow residents to respond. The City Commission is looking for volunteers to help in shaping our community using this vital tool starting in January 2020. The CCC will perform its work from January 2020 to April 2020.

If you are interested in joining the city’s Complete Count Committee for the 2020 Census, send your name, phone number, email address and Election District 1 or 2 to City Clerk Meredith Roark at meredith.roark@decaturga.com by Dec. 2.

-Don’t miss Professor of English at Emory University, Deepika Bahri for the Writers & Scholars Series at Agnes Scott in the Alston Campus Center this Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 6-8 p.m.

-Come out the the Decatur Library Auditorium to hear John Simon discuss his book, Strangers in a Stranger Land: the first comprehensive history of Finland’s Jewish community on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7:15 p.m.

November Tornado Siren System Test

The November test of the Tornado Outdoor Warning Siren System will happen tomorrow (11/6/19) at 5:00 p.m. The test should last approximately one minute. Should the weather become inclement, the test will be postponed until Thursday, 7 November 2019.

-There will be a City Commission Meeting tonight, Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. If you can’t make it to City Hall (509 North McDonough St), we’ll be streaming live at decaturga.com.

-Election Day is this Tuesday, Nov. 5. A sample ballot and a link to the City’s elected officials map can be found at decaturga.com/cmo/page/elections-and-voting.

-Consumer investigator and author Dale Cardwell is coming to the Decatur Library Auditorium this evening, Nov. 4 at 7:15 p.m. The event is free and open to the community, books will be available to purchase and have signed.

-Bring your lunch and join the DeKalb History Center to learn about the recent restoration of the Lyon Farmhouse from the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area Alliance this Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 12-1 p.m. For more information, visit dekalbhistory.org.

-The city’s fall recycling event is here! To recycle your old electronics and Styrofoam, drop by Decatur Public Works on Saturday, Nov. 2 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Please note, paper shredding will NOT be available during this recycling event (will return during the spring event). -Capoeira Maculelê Decatur presents Eu Sou Maculelê 2019! Come out to celebrate Mestre Fran and Mestra Sara day in the City of Decatur this Friday, Nov. 1 and Saturday, Nov. 2. For more event schedules and activities, visit Capoeira Maculelê Decatur on Facebook.

Decatur Tax Bills Online for 2019

Property tax bills for the second installment of 2019 in the City of Decatur are available online. Property owners may pay at www.decaturgatax.com by e-check with zero convenience fee or by credit card with a convenience fee. Convenience fees apply for all credit card payments whether made online or in person.

Payment is due by December 20. For general information about how Decatur property taxes are calculated, exemptions, or payment requirements while appealing a property value, call 404-370-4100 or visit www.decaturga.com/taxes.
