Be honest. When you first heard that Pure Barre was opening in Decatur, you thought it was another spot in town where you could order an old fashioned. Am I right? It’s actually a fitness studio where you can a super intense workout in 55 minutes. So now you know. But did you also know the studio has a retail section? Pure Barre sells workout clothes for women (leggings, tops, socks) and accessories like the bkr bottles (see photo above). It also sells Lily and Laura bracelets handmade by women in Nepal, which are gorgeous and perfect stocking stuffers. You have no need to trek out to Lululemon or Athleta to get your workout gear. And once you’ve bought that workout gear, you can test it out at  Pure Barre class – just don’t blame me if you’re too sore to walk the next morning.

Tip: $10 drop-in class rate and 10 percent off retail on Terrific Thursdays.

Salon red_web

It was a very sad day when I walked into Salon Red and discovered that they no longer carry my beloved Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray (it’s still sold at the Candler Park location, but that’s sooooo far away). My devastation didn’t last long because I immediately spotted the salon’s Smith & Cult display. Best. Nail. Polish. Ever. I’m not exaggerating here. The formula is amazing and free of Dibutyl, Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor, plus the color selection is second to none. So, if you have a You-Tube-make-up-tutorial-obsessed beauty guru in your life, head over to Salon Red for your holiday shopping. If you’re overwhelmed by the color choice, just pick at random because you can’t go wrong.

Tip: Receive a $25 gift certificate towards services with a purchase of 3 regular sized products every Terrific Thursday.

Holidays are approaching and so are unsafe driving practices. Keep loved ones safe this season by ensuring they are in the correct car seats, booster seats, or wearing their seat belt correctly. The fire department is happy to check car seat installations and advise residents on seat belt use (and misuse); however, most issues arise out of doing things “we aren’t suppose to do.” Do not let your small children sit in the front seat. Do not text and drive. Look out for pedestrians. And do not drink and drive. If there is any confustion about rules, ages, do(s), and don’t(s), look at this website for Georgia safety laws -http://www.ghsa.org/html/stateinfo/bystate/ga.html or come see us at the fire department.

It wasn’t easy to decide the winner of this year’s Commissioners’ Cauldron. There were 19 wonderfully creative entries. After much deliberation, the judges picked the mutant lawn flamingos at 204 Adair St:
