Talk Decatur dollars during upcoming public hearings on the fiscal year 2019-20 City of Decatur budget and property tax millage rates. Mark your calendars!
  • Monday, June 10 at 6 pm: Public hearing on 2019 Millage Rates
  • Monday, June 17 at 7:30 pm: Public hearing and scheduled adoption of Proposed FY 2019-20 Budget and Revised 2018-19 Budget and adoption of final 2019 Millage Rates
  • Both events will be held at Decatur City Hall, 509 N. McDonough St.

Copies of the FY 2019-20 Proposed Budget and FY 2018-19 Revised Budget are available at Decatur City Hall and at the Decatur Library, 215 Sycamore St. as well as online at decaturga.com/budget.

FY19-20 Budget Happenings

Are you interested in learning more about the City’s FY19-20 budget and 2019 millage rates? There are a few ways for you to get involved between now and adoption day on June 17, 2019.

  1. Take some time to read through the budget document. It’s available online at www.decaturga.com/budget. Or if you prefer to look at a hard copy, head over to the Decatur Library reference desk (215 Sycamore Street) or stop by the City Clerk’s Office (509 N. McDonough Street) to check one out.
  2. Attend a public hearing and let the City Commission know your thoughts on the budget and the 2019 millage rates. We have two more public hearings scheduled in the coming weeks. One is Monday, June 10th at 6:00 p.m. and the other is Monday, June 17th at 7:30 p.m. All meetings will be held in the City Commission Meeting Room at Decatur City Hall (509 N. McDonough Street.)
  3. Let us know your thoughts via the Open City Hall forum. If attending a meeting at City Hall just doesn’t work for you, you can still let the City Commission know your thoughts by sharing them here.
  4. Watch the archived video of the City Commission work session focused on the FY18-19 revised budget and the FY19-20 proposed budget. An archived video of the session is now available on the City’s website.

Legacy Park Affordable Housing Workshop

Affordable housing is coming to Legacy Park! – Now what? Join in the Decatur Legacy Park Affordable Housing Workshop THIS SATURDAY, April 13, 9 am to noon at the gymnasium at 500 S. Columbia Drive to help decide. All are welcome in this community conversation on the affordable housing portions of the property’s master plan. Here’s more:

Through community visioning and values, the Legacy Park master planning process (decaturnext.com/category/umch) took shape. The property’s master plan identifies two areas — the North and South Villages — for affordable housing. But exactly what form should such housing take? What scale and design can best address this pressing need while also remaining sensitive to the character of the historic United Methodist Children’s Home campus and its surrounding neighborhoods?
 

On Saturday, April 13, from 9am-Noon we will drill down on exactly how, within the context of Decatur Legacy Park, we might serve that need most effectively. This is a pivotal, hands-on opportunity for affordable housing stakeholders and the broader Decatur community to make a substantive contribution to our city’s long-term affordability, as well as to the related diversity and inclusion ambitions that inform it. A facilitated, 3-hour event, the workshop is open to all and will focus on activities — both indoors and, weather-permitting, outdoors — that help visualize and rank different housing approaches.

If you are interested in running for elected office later this year or were recently elected/appointed, consider attending this free seminar offered by the Georgia Government Transparency & Campaign Finance Commission at the Decatur Recreation Center on Monday, April 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This training seminar is open to all residents interested in seeking a statewide, county or municipal elected office.

Stormwater Walking Tour Tomorrow

Walk and talk stormwater tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 18, 8-10 a.m. Meet up at Oakhurst Park (307 Feld Ave.) with representatives from the city and our Stormwater Master Plan consultant team for a stormwater walking tour through Oakhurst neighborhood. Take a look at real-world effects of rain and runoff in our community, discuss successes, envision future solutions, and get some fresh air while you’re at it. After a great kick-off session earlier this month, the City of Decatur wants to keep the conversation going and bring innovation and community input to our new stormwater masterplan. So, step up! – we want to hear from you. 

This tour provides an additional weekday morning opportunity for community members to contribute to the conversation. Follow along with Decatur’s Stormwater Master Plan initiative and add to our stormwater Wikimap at decaturnext.com/stormwater.
