-The Decatur Arts Alliance is hosting the Core Dance photography show and opening reception this Monday, Dec. 9 from 6-8 p.m. at the Decatur Arts Alliance Gallery (113 Clairemont Ave). The retrospective exhibition documents the contemporary dance organization from 2014 to the present and will be available for viewing Dec. 10-13 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
-Join the Decatur Environmental Sustainability Board for a discussion about the problems associated with single-use plastics and hear how some communities are choosing to respond to this environmental challenge Monday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Decatur Recreation Center. This event is free and open to the community.
-Get up close and personal with the Historic DeKalb Courthouse on a behind the scenes tour this Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 12 p.m. Visit dekalbhistory.org for ticket information.
-Meet some of Oakland Cemetery’s most notable residents with author Janice McDonald’s new book, Residents of Oakland Cemetery. Come out for Hops at the History Center on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. For tickets, visit dekalbhistory.org.

-Little Shop of Stories will host Tomi Adeyemi, author of Children of Blood and Bone, on tour for the second book in the Legacy of Orïsha series, Children of Virtue and Vengence. Still time to give to Decatur Makers Kickstarter

Decatur Makers asked me to share the following:

Decatur Makers smashed their Kickstarter fundraising goal of $15K!

This will fund the final construction to officially open their makerspace across the street from the Post Office in downtown Decatur.  BUT no rest for the mad-hatted makers. With the final hours ticking onward, the campaign ends Oct 30 at midnight, they’re shooting for another $10,000. They’d like to create a large door opening that’ll allow bigger projects & equipment to come in and out of the space AND they’d like to install a computer server rack to equip their members with some awesome technology.  For more info: http://bit.ly/dmks

Happening this weekend in Decatur

Spend the weekend checking out the Lexicon of Sustainability artwork (photo above) at the Decatur Visitors Center and on the walls at Leon’s, Cakes & Ale, Chai Pani, and Farm Burger. Make sure to pick up a punch card at any of the five locations and the four participating restaurants will provide you with a weekly treat on Tuesdays in June.

Souper Jenny brings back its famous Lobster Rolls this Saturday for the rest of the summer (every Saturday). Also, the shop is also now carrying daily pressed juices from its sister store, Juicy Jenny.

The Pinewood is hosting its popular Alchemy Cocktail Class this Saturday at 4pm. Sign up here.

Join Decatur Active Living this Saturday at 10:30 a.m. for the kick off of the 2014 Summer Youth Baseball league at McKoy Park, 1006 Adams Street.

‘Last Call’ Closing Reception of the Decatur Arts Festival Fine Arts Exhibit is Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. Selected artists will give a brief discussion about their works.
