Census 2020 Response Timeline

By now you have probably heard that 2020 is the year for the US Census and that this census will be the first to utilize an online response option. Responding by phone and mail are also still options.

To assist you in getting ready to complete the information for your household, check out this list of important dates –

On or between: You’ll receive:
March 12-20, 2020 An invitation to respond online to the 2020 Census. Some households will also receive paper questionnaires.
March 16-24, 2020 A reminder letter.

 

If you haven’t responded yet:  
March 26-April 3, 2020 A reminder postcard.
April 8-16, 2020 A reminder letter and paper questionnaire.
April 20-27, 2020 A final postcard reminder before a US Census Bureau worker follows up in person.
May-July, 2020 US Census Bureau workers visit household that did not fill out the questionnaire on paper, online or over the phone. The census workers collect information at the door of each house they visit. This process is called non-response follow-up.

The Generational Jig

Are you looking for something fun to do on your extra day in 2020? Then look no further than the Generational Jig: A Throwback Dance for All Ages, presented by the Decatur Youth Council.

This family-friendly and all-ages dance will be held in the Decatur Recreation Center Gymnasium from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 29th. There will be music, food, dancing and a silent auction. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence.

Infrastructure Work to Impact Southbound Traffic on Clairemont

Network Cabling Infrastructures, LLC will be at the intersection of Clairemont Avenue and Scott Boulevard tomorrow, February 15 between the hours of 9 a.m. and Noon to install infrastructure for the city’s fiber network. This will require the closing of the southbound turning lane and left travel lane. Please note that vehicular access will be maintained but delays should be expected. Scott Boulevard PHB Update

The Scott Boulevard Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) at Westchester Elementary School will be fully operational beginning February 18. This signalized crosswalk will serve as a Safe Route to School route for elementary students so please proceed with caution.

Every.One.Counts. – Census 2020

April 1, 2020 is Census Day. The City of Decatur wants all of its residents to participate to help inform the process for the distribution of more than $675 billion in federal funds to communities around the country each year for things such as health care, emergency services, infrastructure, education and food assistance.

Monitoring of S. Columbia/Talley/Shadowmoor Signal

Monitoring Talley Intersection

The City is currently monitoring the now fully operational South Columbia/Talley/Shadowmoor signal. Adjustments will be made to the signal timing to improve traffic flow on all approaches of the intersection. Please be patient as we work to find the optimal timing that accommodates all vehicular and pedestrian movements.

Shadowmoor Drive is now a part of the intersection. When Shadowmoor gets a green please proceed through the entire intersection, you no longer need to stop at Talley!

S. Columbia/Talley/Shadowmoor Signal Update

The S. Columbia/Talley/Shadowmoor signal is now fully operational. The all-way stop signs have been removed and traffic will be controlled by the signal; Shadowmoor Drive will be included in the signal operations of this intersection. This intersection serves as a Safe Route to School route for elementary students so please proceed with caution.
