The tornado outdoor warning sirens are undergoing maintenance this week so you won’t hear the test today. The first system testing you’ll hear in 2015 will be on February 4th at 5:00 p.m. Should you hear the sirens between now and then, take cover as a tornado is likely imminent.
If you have questions or want more information about the siren system, check out the Siren page on the City’s website or contact Police Lt. Barry Woodward at 404-373-6551.

A large sinkhole has developed on Northern Ave. in the southbound lane at the intersection with W Ponce de Leon Ave. It is barricaded and the street is mostly blocked. Drivers cannot exit Northern Ave. onto W Ponce and should use an alternate route such as Montgomery to Fairview. Please avoid this intersection until further notice.

Starting in front of the Solarium, streetscapes contractor CMES, Inc. will begin removal and replacement of the sidewalk along the north side of West Hill Street, then break for the holidays on December 24. Work will resume on January 5.
Sidewalks on West Hill Street will be followed by construction of a small retaining wall and new sidewalks on the east side of Oakview Road. Temporary crosswalks will be placed across West Hill Street and Oakview Road while the new sidewalks are under construction. Below is a map showing the first phase of construction around the south and west perimeter of the Old Scottish Rite Hospital property.

Google has made an announcement that they are delaying decisions nationwide related to the Google Fiber project. They expect to make a public update sometime in early 2015.
Expanding Google Fiber to new areas of the country is a significant undertaking, and large-scale infrastructure projects can sometimes take more time than originally planned. Decatur continues to work with Google to answer questions about processes like permitting and communications. Allowing sufficient time for planning and engineering will help ensure a smooth and efficient process.
The City of Decatur looks forward to our continued work with Google in 2015, and we remain optimistic about metro Atlanta’s prospects for selection. If you have any questions, please direct them to Lena Stevens, lena.stevens@decaturga.com or 678-553-6577.
