Decatur Book Festival Shoes

Nope. I didn’t mistype the title of the post. It’s official. Festival director, Daren Wang, is the proud owner of Bookzilla Chuck Taylors courtsey of Sol Design:

Unfortunately they’re the only pair in existence, but I think they would sell like hotcakes if they were part of the festival merch.

Stop by the square this afternoon to check out the field trip school groups having some literary fun and to spot this fantastic footwear in person.

One of the things I love the most about all the festivals we have in Decatur is how everyone in the community gets involved. A number of businesses this weekend are having special discounts, mini-events and offers to help celebrate the holiday and Decatur Book Festival weekend.

I’ll be updating this post for the next two days as I get updates from other local businesses.

Ann VanSlyke is owner of Mingei World Arts, which is selling the collectible woodcarvings by various artists featuring different figures reading books

Mingei just got a new order of reading figures from La Union. They’re really popular and I’m sure with over 50,000 literary fans shopping around town this weekend, the figures will be going fast. Also make sure to check out the recycled Decatur banner bags on sale.

Kaleidoscope has its new fall shipment in with lots of studded, chained and sequinced items. In between author signings and funnel cake eating, make sure to stop the boutique to check out the new goods.

Melrose on Ponce is holding a sidewalk sale this weekend. The Sudstree will be there with her wonderful handmade soaps and scrubs. The store is located at 345 W. Ponce de Leon Ave.

Greenes Fine Foods
will be welcoming back author of Freddie and Me: Life Lessons From Freddie Bennett, Augusta National’s Legendary Caddie Master, Tripp Bowden. Also stop by and check out the new products and enjoy samples all weekend.

I plan on bringing a piece to hang on the clothesline – this is always a very fun event. Nice to mingle with the artists and talk to them about their art. After viewing the artwork, walk up the stairs to Eddie’s Attic for some great music and a beverage.

See you on the Square!

Today’s weather was perfect for the start of the Blue Sky Concert Series on the Square in downtown Decatur. Jennifer Daniels came all the way from Nashville to play for the noon-time crowd that gathered under the trees. Hope to see everyone on Sunday night for the first September Concert on the Square, featuring Sweet AlisAbeth.
