The 22nd Annual Decatur Arts Festival unveiled this year’s festival poster at a wonderful and fun Poster Unveiling last Thursday at the Old Courthouse on the Square. The poster was designed by James Dean and features the ubiquitous Pete the Cat. Many “oooohs” and “aaahs” were heard as the drape was lifted. Posters and t-shirts featuring the design will be available at the Information Tents at the festival.

The Decatur Arts Festival will be held on Memorial Day Weekend, May 29 and 30, on the Old Courthouse Square in downtown Decatur. The festival will kick off with the ArtWalk on Friday, May 28th at dozens of businesses in Decatur. The Decatur Arts Alliance has a great Fine Arts Exhibition that is part of the annual Decatur Arts Festival. The exhibition is held at the Dalton Gallery at Agnes Scott College and has a well attended Opening Reception in conjunction with the May meeting of the Decatur Business Association. They offer cash prizes to the winning artists as well as provide an opportunity for artists’ work to be seen by the community. The exhibit ends with a “Last Call!” closing reception which includes insights into the art by some of the artists.

The Decatur Arts Alliance is making great use of the window space left behind when By Hand South owner Brenda Leder retired. The window has become “Decatur Street Gallery” showcasing the work of local artist Gail Vogels. Glad to see that this wonderful window has become part of the street scene on Ponce.

Artists interested in an opportunity to have their work displayed should contact Executive Director Angie Macon at 404-371-9583.  Kudos to the Arts Alliance for their efforts to support local artists! Consider joining the organization and getting involved.

wine

Okay, so I “borrowed” the title from a DM Blog comment, but I thought it was appropriate! Last month the Great Decatur Beer Tasting Festival brought over 4000 people to the Decatur Square to taste over 4oo different beers. So, to be fair to the wine drinkers in the area, the Decatur Arts Alliance is presenting the 8th annual Decatur Wine Festival this coming Saturday. There will be over 350 different wines for your tasting pleasure, plus 14 restaurants offering samples of their foods and music all afternoon. And all of this plus a commemorative wine tasting glass for only $30! Interested?  Get your tickets here!
