On November 6 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Place on Ponce will be holding Hard Hat Tours. All attendees will need to RSVP to theplace.mgr@ram-mgt.com to reserve a slot. The tour will start in the lobby at 315 W. Ponce de Leon Ave and will take about 30 minutes. Please be there 15 minutes prior to the time slot you have reserved.

With the holiday season fast approaching, Worthmore Jewelers continues its long-standing tradition of giving back to the Atlanta community it calls home. This year, Worthmore will kick off the season of giving with a free personal safety seminar in Decatur on Nov. 13.
The seminars will be led by local safety expert Michael Briant of SKYDAS Group International — an award-winning strategic security consulting firm. Briant will focus on preventative instruction — encouraging situational awareness, understanding criminal methodologies, and identifying outlying behaviors — with supplementary physical self-defense instruction offered by Highland Martial Arts later in the evening.
Community members of all physical skill levels are invited to attend the seminars.
The event will be held at the Decatur Recreation Center in downtown Decatur (231 Sycamore St.) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Attendees will enjoy complimentary Raging Burrito appetizers along with the safety seminar.
Harris Botnick, Worthmore Jewelers president and owner, said the events were inspired by tough situations faced by close community friends. “Crime rates really sky-rocket this time of year, and we’ve had quite a few friends fall victim to muggings and other senseless personal attacks,” asserted Botnick. “We feel that helping to keep our friends, families, and community members safe is the best possible gift we can give this holiday season.”

Here are a few things going on right now that will get you ready for Halloween next week…
*5th annual Commissioner’s Cauldron- Residents and businesses are invited to decorate for Halloween and submit a photo to specialevents@decaturga.com by noon on Monday, October 27th. Please include your name and address. Judges will make their decision Monday evening and the winners will be posted on the City of Decatur website, the Downtown Decatur Facebook page, and on www.thedecaturminute.com blog. Winners will receive a special yard sign to display throughout the week and one stand-out location will win the coveted Commissioner’s Cauldron trophy to keep on display for the entire year.

On Friday, October 17th, the Susan G. Komen 3-Day will come through downtown Decatur from about 11:15am until about 3:30pm. Walkers and spectators will be on the sidewalks but please be patient as there may be some traffic delays. Crowds will be the heaviest in front of the DeKalb History Center.
The Decatur Craft Beer Festival is being help on the Decatur Square on Saturday, October 18th from 11am-5:00pm. N. McDonough St, East Court Square, and Ponce de Leon Ave (between Clairemont and Chursh St) will be closed for the duration of this event. The event is Sold out and is held rain or shine.

UPDATE to the update: DeKalb County estimates it will take 30 days for its crew to finish upgrading the water system, weather permitting. Once that is done, final paving of Ansley St. will be completed.
The repaving of Ansley St. started on Monday, and as sometimes happens, an unexpected water leak issue developed. The city is currently working with DeKalb County to replace and upgrade the water system underneath Ansley St. before finishing the repaving process.
The good news is this means once everything is complete Ansley St. will have a new, smooth surface AND an upgraded water system. The only downside is Ansley St. will be torn up for a bit longer than anticipated. Once an updated work schedule is finalized we will share it here on this blog.
