Hello Friends of the AJC Decatur Book Festival,

It’s official! The Decatur Book Festival is kicking off on August 30 and would love to have you as part of the Volunteer Decatur Team.

The DBF is one of the largest events in the City of Decatur and will take place August 30, 31 and September 1.

They have a lot of volunteer opportunities open, so log into your Volunteer Decatur account to check them out. Be sure to move the calendar to September to see the Sunday schedule.

Also, check out the schedule for the festival at decaturbookfestival.com and see if your favorite authors will be there.

If you have friends or family who are interested in volunteering, but don’t yet have a volunteer Decatur account, ask them to visit Volunteer Decatur to sign up for their very own profile so they can join in the fun.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email us.

Thanks for volunteering and we’ll see you soon!

Decatur Dinners, Aug. 25

Decatur Dinners

The Decatur Dinner’s Design Team invites the community to join them on Sunday, August 25 for 100 dinners in one night in homes, community centers, restaurants, and places of worship across Decatur.

Youth, parents, and community members are invited to share stories and make connections with others who want to see Decatur bridge its racial divides…and all voices are needed at the table to share a meal and talk honestly and openly about what divides us and can bring us together in the City of Decatur.

You are invited to share this information with your networks and consider hosting or facilitating a dinner of 8-10 people. Find out more information and sign up at www.DecaturDinners.com.

The Decatur Dinners Design Team partners include representatives from City Schools of Decatur, Decatur Housing Authority, Better Together Advisory Board, Decatur Education Foundation, Out of Hand Theater, Both And Partners, and One Small Change Inc.

A message from DeKalb County Magistrate Court.

Class Picture 102218

DeKalb County’s Chief Magistrate Judge Berryl A. Anderson is proud to announce the Second Annual People’s Law School. This community education program, which is free and available to all DeKalb County residents, is designed to provide adults with a general overview of the court system in Georgia, with a special emphasis on DeKalb Magistrate Court. The curriculum will include instruction on civil, criminal, ordinance and mental health court matters. Friday, September 6 is the last day to apply. Space is limited and applying does not guarantee a space in the program.

Classes will take place on Monday evenings for four consecutive Mondays: October 14, October 21, October 28, and November 4, from 6-8 p.m. After completion of all class sessions, participants will “graduate” from the People’s Law School. However, this course is not for educational credit and nothing presented or discussed should be considered legal advice.

For more information and to apply for the program, visit TicketLeap.com and enter “People’s Law School 2019” in the search box, or e-mail dekalbmagcourtpls@gmail.com.
