City office holiday hours: City of Decatur offices are closed for the Christmas holiday Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec 25

Recreation center refurbishment: Decatur Recreation Center and Ebster Recreation Center will close today and reopen Jan. 2, 2019. The gym floors will be refinished during this time.

Solid Waste and Recycling Services Holiday Schedule: Christmas Holiday, Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25

Join jolly jam sessions at Big Tex (308 W. Ponce de Leon Ave.). Big Tex serves up food and atmosphere somewhere between classic American and Southern… Nope, must be Texan! They’ve got their own good thing going with house-smoked meats, Lone Star State favorites, and tons of live music on the side. Sidle up for chicken fried steak, nachos, and late-night Americana rock on weekends. In true Decatur fashion, this not-too-honky tonk pours primo pints and concocts clever cocktails, too. Big Tex makes merry all week! Have half-priced fajitas on Mondays, $5 smash burgers and Jack Daniels deals on Tuesdays, open mic night on Wednesdays, aaaaand…

Get a good dog at Doggy Dogg (310 E. Howard Ave.) in Decatur. They serve snappy all-beef franks, vegan dogs, local kielbasa, chorizo and bacon with delicious and inventive toppings, and the toastiest of buns. Doggy Dogg is all about letting your frank flag fly. Their menu features top-quality ingredients – think small-batch hot sauce, kimchi, and kraut – in inspired combinations. Go local with the 404: “pimchz (housemade pimento cheese) + bacon bits + dogg sauce (tangy honey mustard) + hot sauce.” Or go all out with the Pushkar Pupp (vegan by default): “spicy onion relly, pepper’d plantain chips, peach habanero hot sauce, herbadellic chutney and tandoori veganaise.” The main take-away from this charming take-away stand is that food should be good (maybe messy) fun.

Spice up the season at Mezcalito’s Cantina (653 East Lake Dr.) in Oakhurst. Authentic recipes and updated flavors bring Mexican menu favorites to new levels of delicioso.
