Sirens webThe February test of the Tornado Outdoor Warning Siren System will happen today (2/14/18) at 5:00 p.m. The test should last approximately one minute. Should the weather become inclement in the next couple of hours, the test will be postponed until Thursday, 15 February 2018.

If you have questions or want more information about the siren system, check out the Siren page on the City’s website or contact Police Lt. Barry Woodward at 404-373-6551.

Thanks to everyone who made yesterday’s Children’s Home vision workshop such a success. Unable to attend? Get a recap and info on next steps here.

Every other year for the past 12 years, the City of Decatur has surveyed its residents through the National Research Center (NRC.) Last week the NRC sent out a postcard notification announcing the 2018 survey to a random sample of Decatur residents. If you don’t receive a postcard in the coming days, you are not one of the 1,500 households randomly chosen this time.

The actual survey will be sent out twice on February 9 and February 16 to the random sample. The survey is completely anonymous and we only get the final tabulations from NRC. If you are one of the lucky ones to receive the survey, please make sure to fill it out and send it back via mail or online. We’ve had a 40% response rate for the past six surveys, which is fantastic but we want more!

If you’d like a better idea of what the final tabulations look like, click here to view and download the 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016 survey results. The data from the survey is used by the City in its budgeting, strategic and annual planning processes.

If you have any questions regarding the survey, contact City Clerk Meredith Roark at meredith.roark@decaturga.com or call 404-370-4102.

Don’t let Sunday’s forecast keep you from our visioning workshop at the Methodist Children’s Home. We’re a go, rain or shine, so bring your jacket and umbrella if you plan on exploring the property while there.

Arbor Day

When: February 24, 2018
Where: United Children’s Methodist Home property, 500 S. Columbia Dr. Decatur
Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Join us February 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the celebration of City of Decatur’s “1000 trees by 2023” bicentennial. As part of the celebration we will be giving away 200 seedlings that will include an official bicentennial tree certificate. The event will be held at the United Children’s Methodist Home property at 500 S. Columbia Dr. We will have local arborists as well as landscape and tree services on hand to answer questions.

Due to forecasted rains and potential thunderstorms tomorrow as well as the need to change the batteries on a few of the current sirens, we have decided to move the monthly test of the tornado outdoor warning system until next Wednesday, February 14th at 5:00 p.m.  However, as this is Severe Weather Awareness Week for the entire state, you may hear sirens on Friday, February 9th around 9 a.m. during the statewide tornado drill.

If you have questions or want more information about the siren system, check out the Siren page on the City’s website or contact Police Lt. Barry Woodward at 404-373-6551.
