This morning, Street Smart presented the new technology the City of Decatur is using for the recently unveiled Pay-by-Cell Phone parking option. Many television, radio and print reporters attended. Mayor Floyd and the City Commissioners arrived in Commissioner Jim Baskett’s electric car to try out the system. The PALS, who monitor the meters, were on hand to answer questions. For those of you who listen to NPR, be on the lookout for an interview Jim Burress did with Decatur’s Lyn Menne.

Crosswalk Complete

dscf2110

For those of you who haven’t made your daily run to Starbucks, Brickstore or Sweet Melissa’s yet, here’s a preview of the crosswalk you’ll be using. As mentioned in an earlier post, the E. Ponce de Leon crosswalk was replaced with a new and improved design. The stamped brick material is only slightly raised (so it’s still handicap accessible) and two white lines will be added on either side to make it more visible to drivers.
