The Decatur Homeowner’s Night held by the City Development Department was so popular that we had a line outside  the door before 6 p.m. when the event started.  We had hundreds (okay, twenty) property owners come in to find out information on the process for making improvements to their homes, constructing additions, historic preservation tax incentives (the most popular topic that night!), and permitting/code requirements.  One happy homeowner, George Demmy stated,

“Thanks so much for taking time out of your day to do the Homeowner’s Night. That’s great stuff and was incredibly helpful. I’ve taken much of your advice to heart, and my contractor has seen problems he was fretting about melt away (specifically venting). “

Sad you missed the event?  Devastated that you too could not having your venting questions answered?  Don’t despair, Homeowner’s Night returns one more time before the end of the year.  On Tuesday, December 1st, the Development Department will throw its doors open from 6-8 p.m. to once again provide that extra special attention to our residents of Decatur. It’s the day before my birthday, so I’m thinking cake just might be served.

So come December 1st and get great advice, a permit if you need it ,and cake if you want it!

See you in December!

Everyone who pulls a permit should get a Beer Festival ticket!
Everyone who pulls a permit should get a Beer Festival ticket!

That’s right, its Homeowner’s Night again!  For everyone who missed out on Beer Festival tickets, here’s your chance to be part of another fabulous Decatur event.  Okay, maybe it isn’t quite the same as Beer Festival, but if you have an upcoming project on your house, this is a great event for you.

From 6-8 p.m., the Development Department will have extended hours to answer all your burning questions about zoning, set backs, code compliance, historic preservation, and building inspections.  And if that isn’t enough, we are also offering all the free handouts you can carry out the door with you.  You will be the envy of your friends and neighbors (better than Beer Festival tickets!)

So, come on down to Decatur City Hall on October 6th from 6-8.  Bring your plans, bring your ideas, and bring your own beer (just kidding).

codered_140Effective immediately, all DeKalb County citizens now have the ability to receive personal emergency notifications via the CodeRED system.

Just like the City’s system, the County’s system will allow for geographically based delivery so street addresses are required to ensure emergency notifcation calls are received by the proper individuals in a given situation. If you desire to be included in the County’s notification database you will need to register even if you are already signed up with the City since the databases are separate. Click on the CodeRED link below to register for the emergency notifications from the County.
