Crossing guards helping FAVE students after school.

Crossing guards helping FAVE students after school.

Don’t forget that school starts back up in Decatur next Monday, August 4th. The lighter summer traffic will give way to more traffic in general to include school buses.  Please keep in mind we will also have many more young cyclists and pedestrians making their way to school.  Please slow down and pay extra attention and plan for a little extra commute time to prevent speeding through the school zones.

There will be an increased presence of Decatur officers in and around the school zones to remind everyone school is back in session.  Don’t forget that Westchester Elementary is now open with applicable school zones on Scott Boulevard.

Atlanta Public Schools will also start back Monday, August 4th  and DeKalb County Schools start back Monday, August 11th.  When traffic is backed up or stopped and your frustration level rises, just sit back and remember the excitement of the first day of school.  Then relax and do your part to make sure everyone gets to where they are going safely.

Two separate projects are scheduled to be filmed in downtown Decatur over the next two days.

  • Tuesday, July 29th-  Feature film project on location at Harbour House Restaurant, 129 Church Street
  • Wednesday, July 30th- Television show on location at No. 246 Restaurant, 129 E. Ponce de Leon Avenue

Decatur Police will be present both days to keep traffic moving and to help with any issues that may arise

Thank you for your patience!

The City of Decatur has issued a film permit to 999 Productions, LLC for filming of a project titled TRIPLE NINE to take place in the 200 block of Kings Highway in the evening and overnight hours beginning today through Friday morning.

Stretches of Ansley Street and Kings Highway will also be used for filming some neighborhood driving shots. To safely accommodate filming, Decatur Police will be directing
traffic with stoppages lasting no longer than 3 minutes. Most of this work will be done in the evening and through the night until 8am on July 12.
The production company  realizes they are guests in the neighborhood and the cast and crew will treat it with the utmost respect. In general, there will be some noise due to special effects associated with filming such as bright lights and engine noises. Also, the city has given permission to have the street lights turned off during the filming. Additional officers will be present to keep the area safe and secure.
