A number of Decatur shops are offering some great discounts this Friday. So put on your walking shoes and burn off those calories from your Thanksgiving Day meal while holiday shopping around town.

  • Squash Blossom Door Buster Sale, 25% off storewide, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Boogaloos, Kaleidoscope and Eviva’s Annual After Thanksgiving Day Sale, 25% off full price merchandise 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Mingei World Arts Friday Doorbusters and Lotus Blossoms, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Mingei is featuring sales on several items that NEVER go on sale.
  • That Pottery Place is offering “Black Friday” Mini Art Camp for Kids.
  • Rockit Holiday Black Friday Sale, save 30-60% off a large selection of women’s and men’s apparel.

After a successful day of shopping, stop by Kavarna at 9 p.m. for a cuppa and a concert featuring the Feeding Fingers with Travel by Train.

Atlanta Magazine’s Best of Atlanta issue just came out and there are a number of Decatur store/restaurant/festival/blog mentions including Watershed’s fried chicken on the front cover. Here’s the rundown:

Local Decatur blogs Decatur Metro, In Decatur and Asian Cajuns are listed as best neighborhood news and best local style blog respectively. Watershed and Taqueria del Sol are listed under Best of Atlanta Hall of Fame for being featured year after year.

Wild Seed Event

Decatur is the place to be this weekend. There’s Palate’s anniversary celebration (see post below) tonight, Decatur CD’s in-store performance on Saturday and then Shaken, Not Stirred (see second post below) on Sunday. And now you have an excuse to go to Wild Seed Boutique (located on East Ponce next to McKinney’s Apothecary) this Sunday for the launch of a new jewelry line:

Celebrate Palate Wine Bar’sfour year anniversary tonight in Oakhurst.

In the past four years, Palate has grown from a wine and dessert bar to a full service restaurant with a full bar. Palate’s best selling wine, Earthquake Zinfandel, will only be $6 a glass tonight. Other anniversary drink specials include $3 McWilliams Chardonnay and $2.50 Sweetwater 420. Recession specials include $.50 Angel Hair Vegetable Pasta and $5 Meatloaf Entree.

Decatur CD turns 5 this weekend and of course the gang (Warren et al.) has some great celebratory plans lined up.

On Sunday, November 23 at 2 pm Emily Christianson and the members of the Atlanta Modern Dance Community will present “shaken not stirred” on the Old Courthouse Square. The presentation is “two parts James Bond and one part modern dance with a twist”. Be sure to stop by and check out this free event. The rain location is at Several Dancers Core located  at 139 Sycamore Street in Decatur.

The November 15th Park Renewal Day at Dearborn Park was a great success. Renewal Construction, DeKalb County and the City of Decatur hosted the event to help clear out one of the community’s greenspaces.

The 2008 Decatur Holiday Candlelight Tour of Homes tickets are on sale! Stop by either The Seventeen Steps, Intown Ace Hardware on Ponce de Leon, Bicycle South or The Seen Gallery to get your tickets. This year’s “Living Green” Tour features eight homes and four points of interest. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. They will be available at each of the eight homes during the Tour.

The Tour is a fundraiser that benefits the Decatur Preservation Alliance and the Decatur Youth Fund. For more information on the featured homes and a map visit www.decaturtourofhomes.com. Park your car once and ride the Cliff Bus for free. Parking is available at Renfroe Middle School, Decatur First Baptist Church parking deck and Glennwood Academy.

Melrose on Ponce invites everyone to their Holiday Open House. Stop by and enjoy discounts, yummy treats, complimentary beverages and live music on the front porch.
