Join the Pied Piper Parade as it makes its way through downtown Decatur on Tuesday, July 4. Gather friends and family, ride your bike, walk or skate in this community parade for anyone and everyone. Neighborhoods and organizations are encouraged to make floats and join the fun too. And don’t forget your red, white, and blue!

Parade lineup is at 5:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Decatur, 308 Clairemont Ave. Pedestrians will gather on the lawn and vehicles will be lined up by volunteers in the parking lot.

The parade begins at 6 p.m. The concert on the square starts at 7 p.m. in the Community Bandstand, featuring the Callanwolde Concert Band. Fireworks begin at dark (approximately 9 p.m.).

Thanks to the Decatur Business Association for their contribution for the fireworks display.

Church_StripingStarting tomorrow, June 29, traffic striping will be refreshed along Church St. between Commerce Dr and the city limits (past Medlock Rd). The work will last through Friday. Traffic will generally be maintained during the work, but delays are to be expected.

The impact

A contractor working on the North McDonough streetscape project severed a gas line a few minutes after 1:00 p.m. today. A repair crew is en route. North McDonough is closed and will remain closed until the line is repaired.

How to manage

Alternate routes are required. The CSX rail line can still be crossed using East Trinity Place/Candler Street or Atlanta Avenue.

For all who are enjoying the new MARTA Overpass Mural at the corner of W. Trinity and Atlanta Ave, here is a video documenting the process.  Many thanks to the Atlanta Regional Commission for the grant, to the steering committee partners, and to the community for their input in making this dream a reality.  Thanks also to Lampe-Farley Communications for documenting the entire process and producing this fun video.

If you haven’t seen the mural, be sure to go by it and while you are there, check out the cool Playscape underneath funded with a KaBOOM grant.

This is a reminder that all city offices are closed for the 4th of July holiday, Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4.

Regular services for Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4, will be on Wednesday, July 5.
