Reminder: the City of Decatur is hosting Neighborhood Clean-up Days on Saturdays in March-June, to allow residents to dispose of bulky materials that would not normally be placed in pay-as-you-throw bags. Every street in the City has been assigned to one Saturday. Visit the Neighborhood Cleanup Days page on the city website for detailed instructions and specified dates for each street.

We have been made aware of a recent spoof/bluff call made to a city resident. The caller ID indicated the call was coming from the City of Decatur and came from 404-377-1708, which is not a number assigned to any City of Decatur phone. The call was a sales call. This appears to be a spoof/bluff call where the caller ID is manipulated to make it appear the call is coming from a certain person/entity. Please know that you will not receive sales calls from the City of Decatur and we suggest hanging up.
Additionally, we have been made aware of a message received by a city resident claiming an agent with the FBI is issuing a final notification “against your case with from the Department of Tax and Crime Investigation” and stating the home address is under investigation and a warrant has been issued. You are then instructed to call 415/842-9158. This is a computer generated robocall that is being made across the United States. Upon calling the number left in the message, you are instructed to leave a message. Do not call back and leave a message. If you receive this call, just hang up. These calls are typically generated outside of the United States and are phishing calls designed to steal money and personal information.
Please spread the word about these calls to your senior neighbors who may not be on social media, but who are often the victims of phone based fraud.

The City of Decatur has upgraded and expanded the Tornado Outdoor Warning Siren System adding two new sirens, one at to the Children’s Home property and one between the Decatur Police Department and Ebster Pool. The new system will be tested tomorrow, Thursday, May 10 at 5 pm. The test should last no more than 3 minutes. THIS IS ONLY A TEST.

Blount Construction will be resurfacing the intersection of Church Street and E. Ponce de Leon Avenue starting Thursday, May 10 at 8:30 am and will be completed by Friday, May 11 at 6 pm.
Traffic will be maintained at all times through lane shifts or one-way traffic with Flaggers, though delays should be expected. Commerce Drive on both the east and west sides of downtown provides for optional routes of travel.

Savi Provisions is now open on the corner of W Ponce de Leon Ave and Commerce Drive (former home to Cook’s Warehouse). Open seven days a week, this location features complimentary on-site parking in the parking lot behind the store just off of Commerce Drive. The neighborhood destination offers locally sourced gourmet and organic foods, fine wines, craft beers and will soon offer spirits too. This is the sixth Savi Provisions in the metro area and the first to offer spirits as well as a deli counter and fresh flowers.
The Savi menu includes breakfast options such as omelets, Chia Seed bowls, biscuits, bagels and croissants, as well as breakfast burritos, sandwiches and weekend brunch. A few lunch highlights include the Quinoa Super Food Bowl, a Simple Salad and Wild Mushroom Tart, and sandwiches such as a grilled cheese with three cheeses on sourdough bread with tomato soup and a shaved prime rib French Dip complete with horseradish mayo and porcini au jus on French bread.
Catering for large or small groups is also available and special tastings and events as well as weekly specials will all be part of the gourmet experience.

With the City Schools of Decatur new 3-4-5 Academy on Talley Street and the Avondale Transit Oriented Development on Sams Street, the southeast portion of the City of Decatur is entering a transformative period.
The community is invited to attend the first public meeting for a Transportation Improvement Study. This is a joint project between the City of Decatur and the City Schools of Decatur to study the transportation network in the southeast area of Decatur to identify improvements to accommodate new developments and future changes. To begin the study, we want to hear from you!

Where: City of Decatur Public Works Building, 2635 Talley Street
The study includes identifying improvements to address all modes of travel for: pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles that navigate through and around the corridor. This public meeting is an opportunity for you to share your concerns and suggestions in an open house format. Come by at your convenience. There is no formal presentation.
In addition to this initial public meeting, an online survey will be available for the public May 16-May 31. We look forward to hearing from you.
