We are about halfway through with the Cultural Arts Master Plan.  Thank you to all who have participated in a public input session, filled out the online survey, and/or made a comment at Open City Hall.  We are holding two more focus groups on Wednesday, January 20 targeting young professionals and families.  Please consider joining the conversation.  All are welcome even if you do not fall into either of those groups.  Please see the details below:

Exhibit for Deadheads!

I figured that title would draw your attention! Here is one of many free activities coming up in Decatur. You may want to put this one your calendar.

"The Mona Lisa" by Matt Huffman

The public is invited to attend an exhibit of icons and mixed-media collages by Matt Huffman at the Sycamore Place Gallery, 120 Sycamore Place, Decatur, GA 30030.  “The show will be of special interest to Deadhead and Grateful fans,” says Huffman, who considers himself a “self-invented cultural historian of America’s not-so-distant past.” The gallery will host an opening from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, February 6. The exhibit runs through February 14. Call (404) 377-7747 for gallery hours.

Brrrr…..it is SO cold outside. The Run With the Dogs scheduled for tomorrow morning has been postponed until Saturday, January 16th due to icy roads and safety of the runners. If you haven’t signed up, you have another week to get ready to run. The race will begin in downtown Decatur at 9 am.

This is an annual race which benefits the Decatur High School Bulldog Boosters.

Stay warm and have a safe and fun weekend.

Due to the hazardous road conditions, the garbage and recycling collection for today, Friday, January 8, 2010 has been postponed. We will collect the Friday route on Monday, January 11, 2010.

The Friends of the Library are gearing up for the Friends of the Decatur Library Book Sale on Saturday, February 27. This is a great opportunity to dust off those gently used books you have been meaning to pass on to someone to read. The library is accepting up to five boxes of books at a time. If you would like a receipt (start thinking ahead to your 2010 tax return), bring a count of the paperback and hardbacks you donate.

For those interested in helping out as a volunteer, contact Jane Miller  j_spencer_00@yahoo.com.  This fundraiser supports Musical Bookings, children’s programs, senior films and other activities.

If you are not a regular at the library, I encourage you to make a visit. Not only can you read some great books for free, but they also have DVDs and CDs available. Check out the website where you can place an “order”, and they will send an email when they are ready for you to check out.
