Bye Bye Birdie at STM front

Watch as small town Sweet Apple, Ohio goes into an uproar when Elvis-like icon Conrad Birdie has a contest to kiss one girl in America before shipping off in the Army. Full of fun 50’s rock and roll, several dozen hysterical teen girls, poodle skirts and saddle oxfords, a few New Yorkers, and a “greasy, bongo-playing heartthrob,” this show will have kids tapping their feet and adults enjoying its nostalgic charm. You’ll recognize some of the most famous songs in musical theater, including “Put On a Happy Face,” and the lively “A Lot of Livin’ to Do.”

Second and third weekends in September, September 12-14, and 19-21, 2014
Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.
Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m.

Front porch is a trio of multi-instrumentalists performing unique, original arrangements of classic and southern rock, and top 40 covers. They incorporate piano, guitar, percussion, trumpet, stand up-double bass and banjo. The band consists of professional musicians Brian Bisky, Kevin Scott Cook, and Christopher Alan Yates, all of whom have been working and playing together for years, most recently as the supporting band for Ed Roland and the Sweet Tea Project.

Note from the Concerts Committee:
Front Porch came to the rescue last year at Decatur Greenfest, closing out the night with their original brand of covers. They did an amazing job on a moment’s notice and we expect more of the same this September.

Last week we posted 3 questions about the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) on Open City Hall.  Thank you to everyone who participated and left us their feedback.

.

We’re wrapping up our online polling with questions about how the UDO should handle high performance (green) buildings. The proposed UDO includes new high performance standards for both residential and commercial buildings.

.

The proposal would require some manner of third-party green building certification for new construction or substantial renovations that exceed 50% of a building’s pre-renovation market value.  It would also require new construction buildings to achieve higher tightness standards, making them less leaky than Georgia Residential Energy Code currently allows.

Go to the city’s Open City Hall page now to learn more and let us know what you think. The questions close Sept. 14 at 11:59 p.m.

For more information:

Draft High Performance Building Ordinance Language – this is the proposed code language that would be included in the Draft 2 of the Unified Development Ordinance to be released in late September.
