The Concerts on the Square committee will be selecting bands for the 2010 Concerts on the Square and the Blue Sky Concerts the first week of February. Bands can apply by going to the Decatur Business Association website and filling out the Concert Series Application. A CD or a website where the band’s music can be heard is required. The committee is looking for “fun”, upbeat bands for Saturday night that the crowds will enjoy dancing to. Blue Sky Concerts are a little more laid back, and a great opportunity for smaller bands and singer/song writers to have their music heard. Questions? Call 678-553-6573.
Is Your Child Car Seat Installed Safely?
Posted in Uncategorized, tagged 30030, Car Seat Safety, Decatur, Fire Department on January 21, 2010 | Leave a Comment »
According to the website www.seatcheck.org, 7 out of 10 children in child safety seats are not properly buckled in. Luckily, the City of Decatur Fire Department has trained technicians who are available to perform safety checks on your child car seat and booster seats. Stop by Fire Station #1 or #2 between the hours of 1 PM and 6 PM daily for a free safety check. You may want to give them a call to make sure they are not out on a call. The numbers are 404-373-5092 for Station #1 and 404-378-7611 for Station #2.
In addition, the Fire Department will be holding three Car Seat Events during the upcoming year: Saturday, March 27th at the Callaway Parking lot, Saturday, May 22 at the Callaway Parking lot and Saturday October 8th at McKoy Park. Watch this blog or check the upcoming editions of the Decatur FOCUS for more details.

The ING Georgia Marathon will be coming through Decatur again this year on Sunday, March 21st. We will hold a Community Information Meeting on Monday, February 8 at 6 pm in the City Commission Meeting Room in City Hall.
All members of the community are invited to attend the meeting. This is a great time to sign up to volunteer, get information about the cheering section and water stations, and have your questions answered by the Marathon staff.
The City of Decatur will compete for the best cheering section once again, but this year we have a new location. We will cheer the runners on from the sidewalks along Ponce de Leon in front of the Old Courthouse. The City will also have three water stations as in 2009 and would love to have as many volunteers as possible.
If you would like to participate and cannot attend the meeting, please contact Cheryl Burnette at 678-553-6573 or email cheryl.burnette at decaturga.com.
