Nope. You’re not seeing things wrong. The sweater in the photo above is both a scarf and a cardigan cape thingy. It’s ingenious and stylish. It’s also perfect for this non-so-wintry weather we’ve been having in the south. In the fall you can wear it as a cardigan over a long sleeve shirt. With The Force Awakens opening December 18, there’s no time like the present to start indoctrinating the younger generations in all things Star Wars. The holidays are wonderful. And they’re exhausting. You should treat yourself and get a cone at Butter & Cream. Or you could try one of the delicious baked goods that are always available. Lactose or gluten intolerant? Try the homemade sorbet. And if you start to feel guilty while munching on your ice cream when you should be holiday shopping, pick up some packages of rosemary butter cookies for those on your list. It’s a win win for everyone.

Decorative “artwork” from Bed, Bath and Beyond doesn’t cut it when it comes to your walls. So why not head over to Vivid Boutique on the square for some locally made decor? The shop carries signs made by Decatur artist, George Hanna, featuring Decatur and other things/places you love about the south. They’re perfect for your walls or someone on your holiday shopping list.

Tip: After Halloween, Vivid closes for a few days to get turned into a holiday wonderland. It’ll shock you how many Christmas trees fit into the tiny space.

Be honest. When you first heard that Pure Barre was opening in Decatur, you thought it was another spot in town where you could order an old fashioned. Am I right? It’s actually a fitness studio where you can a super intense workout in 55 minutes. So now you know. But did you also know the studio has a retail section? Pure Barre sells workout clothes for women (leggings, tops, socks) and accessories like the bkr bottles (see photo above). It also sells Lily and Laura bracelets handmade by women in Nepal, which are gorgeous and perfect stocking stuffers. You have no need to trek out to Lululemon or Athleta to get your workout gear. And once you’ve bought that workout gear, you can test it out at  Pure Barre class – just don’t blame me if you’re too sore to walk the next morning.

Stop by Squash Blossom Boutique tonight for the Crochet Kids International trunk show. Crochet Kids sells handmade knit accessories for men and women. The coolest part? Every piece is hand signed by the person who made it. This is ethical fashion at its finest. It’s like TOMS shoes,  but in winter accessory form and not as ubiquitous.

Tip: The trunk show will be open for three days at the store.
