Only half of the tickets remain for the 2017 Decatur Craft Beer Festival. The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 21, noon-5 p.m.

Both general admission and VIP tickets are still available. Keep in mind that this event sells out every year. Proceeds from ticket sales go back into the local community as grants and donations to nonprofit groups. Since its start in 1999, the festival has granted more than $1,200,000 to Decatur nonprofit organizations.

Update 5:50 p.m.:Due to inclement weather, the July 4th parade has been canceled.

The band concert at 7 p.m. and fireworks are still on, but stay tuned to this blog or the City of Decatur Facebook page for updates.

4th of July Celebration

Join the Pied Piper Parade as it makes its way through downtown Decatur on Tuesday, July 4. Gather friends and family, ride your bike, walk or skate in this community parade for anyone and everyone. Neighborhoods and organizations are encouraged to make floats and join the fun too. And don’t forget your red, white, and blue!

Parade lineup is at 5:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Decatur, 308 Clairemont Ave. Pedestrians will gather on the lawn and vehicles will be lined up by volunteers in the parking lot.

The parade begins at 6 p.m. The concert on the square starts at 7 p.m. in the Community Bandstand, featuring the Callanwolde Concert Band. Fireworks begin at dark (approximately 9 p.m.).

Thanks to the Decatur Business Association for their contribution for the fireworks display.

  • Concerts on the Square: May 13 & 20
  • HomeGrown Decatur is donating 10 percent of any purchase on Saturday, May 13 back to the National Brain Tumor Society.
  • Free Yoga on the Green at the bandstand on May 16, 6-7 p.m. let by Cheryl Burnette.
  • Watch artist Sergey Cherep create an original painting during the May 20 Concert on the Square. Proceeds of its sale will be donated to brain cancer research.
  • Jeni’s ice cream will be donating proceeds from its ice cream sales to help support the National Brain Tumor Society on May 20, 8-10 p.m.
  • Zoo Atlanta has donated one of Kelly the Elephant’s paintings for sale. It’ll be auctioned off on May 26. The proceeds from the sale will go to Piedmont Hospital’s Brain Cancer Center.
  • Visit Salon Red Kids anytime during the month of May and mention “Grey Matters” or “Paint the Town Grey” and they will donate 15% of your services to The National Brain Tumor Society.
  • Add your name or someone who is or who has battled cancer to the Grey Matters Art bench on Ponce de Leon Ave. in front of the old court house:

Join the community on Sunday, April 23 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. for the dedication of the MARTA Mural and the KaBOOM! Playscape under the bridge.  The celebration will take place at the corner of W. Trinity & Atlanta Avenues under and around the MARTA Overpass and under the bridge.  We’ll have cookies and ice cream and a cool art project with the Milagros Collective.  Come join the fun!

What: 2nd Annual Amplify Decatur Music Festival

When: Saturday, April 22, 3 – 11 p.m.

Where: Decatur square

Americana legend Lucinda Williams will headline the 2017 Amplify Decatur concert series on April 22, the second annual outdoor music festival on the downtown Decatur square. All funds raised will be directed to Decatur Cooperative Ministry (DCM) to support its efforts to prevent and alleviate homelessness in Decatur and DeKalb County. The concert series is Presented by Lenz and produced in partnership with Eddie’s Attic.

General Admission tickets are $40 and available at AmplifyDecatur.org, and through Ticketfly.com.

The festival will also include performances by Noah Gundersen, John Moreland, Harold Holloway & Co., Packway Handle Band, and Kristen Englenz.

Food will be available for sale by local restaurateurs The Pinewood, Taqueria Del Sol, Universal Joint, and The Iberian Pig. Adult beverages will be available for sale by Creature Comforts Brewing Co., and Three Taverns Craft Brewery.
