Red Snowflakes Holiday Flyer (1)

Even though Holiday Movie Night on West Ponce is canceled due to inclement weather, you should still plan to come to West Ponce de Leon Avenue on Friday night. The shops and restaurants will be open, and Farm Burger is still hosting its own holiday celebration with cookie decorating, a biergarten featuring Sweetwater Festive Ale, and holiday-flavored milkshakes. Plus, White Christmas will be playing on the patio!

Holiday Movie Night Canceled

Due to uncertain weather conditions tomorrow afternoon, Movie Night on West Ponce is canceled. The next West Ponce Movie Night will take place in the spring. Stay tuned to the Decatur Focus and City of Decatur’s Facebook page early next year for more details.

When: December 8, 2017 (this Friday!)

Time: Fun starts at 5:30 p.m., movies start at 6:30 p.m.

Where: The 300 block of West Ponce de Leon Avenue (around Mellow Mushroom)

What: Watch a holiday double feature, Frosty’s Winter Wonderland and White Christmas, with your neighbors and family. Bundle up, bring blankets and chairs, pick up dinner at a nearby restaurant, and snuggle down to watch two holiday favorites.

Cost: It’s free, but make sure to RSVP on FreshTix.

What else?: The Visitors Center tent will be on West Ponce offering free gift wrap for any items purchased at a local Decatur shop, Decatur Fire will be collecting can goods, Orange Theory Fitness will lead the crowd in a warm-up at 5:30 p.m., we’ll have a short White Christmas trivia contest with prizes from local shops, Farmburger will have holiday specials, a Bier Garden featuring Sweetwater’s Festive Ale and cookie decorating for the kiddos, Mellow Mushroom will be serving slices of pizza from its patio, and Highland Bakery is it extending its hours to serve hot chocolate . The street will be closed at 3 p.m., so plan accordingly if you usually take West Ponce de Leon Avenue home in the evening.

Shop small at city of Decatur businesses and then come to the tent on the square for free gift wrapping and festive fun 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Santa sneaks out at 3 p.m. — he’s got work to do!

Santa is *shopping small* this year! Celebrate Small Business Saturday with ol’ Saint Nick himself on the Decatur square. Santa arrives in style on a fire truck at 10 a.m. and stays for milk, cookies, and photo opportunities until 3 p.m. Register for this free event at freshtix.com so there are enough fresh-baked cookies, milk, and hot cocoa to go around. SHOP SMALL for gifts at City of Decatur businesses, then head to the tent on the square to get them expertly gift-wrapped for free! Until 5 p.m.

Makers

Decatur Makers is hosting a Maker & Artist Market to celebrate all the cool and creative hand-made making that comes from the Atlanta community!

The Market will be this Saturday, November 11, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., rain or shine. The address is 605 W. Ponce de Leon Ave, in the parking lot behind the First Christian Church (across the street from the Decatur post office).

Currently there are about 30 vendors who will be selling hand-made products including candy and treats, jewelry and beads, clothing and accessories, candles, wreaths, stained glass, paintings, skincare, soaps, baskets, charms, quilts, cutting boards and cheese boards, and so much more.

There will also be stone carving, animatronic puppetry making, and jewelry making demos. And bring the kids as they can get hands on and DIY their own buttons and cool masks.

Fun for the whole family!

Free Art Every Thursday
On each Terrific Thursday, 10 artsy octopi will be placed in participating shops around Decatur. If you find one, take a photo and post it on Instagram. it’s yours! Tag yourself, the shop, @fishn and the artist (on the back of your new eight-legged friend). Use the #octopidecatur hashtag too.

Local Shopping Tips
Starting Monday, Nov. 6 check this blog, Instagram and Facebook each day for local gift ideas and to see who is keeping it “Indie-catur” this holiday season.

Spend $200 in any city of Decatur shop in November (excludes restaurants and corporate chains) to receive a $20 local restaurant gift card. Bring your receipt(s) to the Visitors Center at 113 Clairemont Ave. or to the tent on the square during Small Business Saturday on Nov. 25 to claim your gift card(s). Limited to three gift cards per shopper. Promotion expires Nov. 30, 2017.

Electronic Recycling

Mark your calendars for the Fall Electronics Recycling event. Gather your old electronics, documents and even styrofoam to be recycled and shredded.

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017  (9 am to 1 pm)

LOCATION: Decatur Public Works, 2635 Talley St. (Enter from Columbia Drive)

Recyclables must be dropped off during the hours of the event. Early drop-offs are not possible.

The fee for recycling cathode ray tube (CRT) TVs is $10 per TV set, and the fee for CRT monitors is $5 ea. Cash only, exact change required.

There is no charge to recycle other items. Any metro area resident can participate.
