Join the Pied Piper Parade as it makes its way through downtown Decatur on Wednesday, July 4. Gather friends and family, ride your bike, walk or skate in this community parade for anyone and everyone. Neighborhoods and organizations are encouraged to make floats and join the fun too. And don’t forget your red, white, and blue!

Parade lineup is at 5:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Decatur, 308 Clairemont Ave. Pedestrians will gather on the lawn and vehicles will be lined up by volunteers in the parking lot. The parade begins at 6 p.m.

The concert on the square starts at 7 p.m. in the Community Bandstand, featuring the Callanwolde Concert Band. Fireworks begin at dark (approximately 9 p.m.).

Open Office Hour (1)

Decatur will host its second Open Office Hour of the year with Mayor pro tem Tony Powers on Wednesday, May 23 from 7 – 8 p.m. Mayor pro tem Powers will speak for approximately 15-20 minutes on the topic of myths and facts of development in the City.

The community is invited to tune in to watch and listen via livestream, http://www.decaturga.com/city-government/city-commission/streaming-video, and will be able and encouraged to submit questions related to the topic live (beginning at 7 p.m.) via the following channels:

She will be in conversation with Emily X.R. Pan, author of The Astonishing Color of After, and moderated by Aisha Saeed, author of Written in the Stars and the upcoming Amal Unbound. Little Shop cannot wait to share these two phenomenal YA books with the community!

The Amplify Decatur Music Festival will return to the downtown Decatur square on Saturday, April 14, 2018 with an all-star Americana line-up that includes The Lone BellowThe JayhawksAmanda Shires, and Parker Millsap. Atlanta-based folk duo Dwayne Shivers will also perform.

Tickets are available at AmplifyDecatur.org and through Ticketfly.com.General Admission tickets are $45 and include front-of-stage access on a first-come, first-served basis. VIP tickets (quantity limited) are $155 and include preferred seating with front-of-stage access, complementary beverages, and dedicated VIP bathrooms.

All funds raised at the third annual outdoor music festival will be directed toDecatur Cooperative-Ministry (DCM) to support its efforts to prevent and alleviate homelessness in Decatur and DeKalb County. The 2017 concert series featured Lucinda Williams and raised $40,000 for DCM.

Amplify Decatur will also feature shows at Eddie’s Attic on Friday, April 13 and Sunday, April 15, with artists to be announced soon.

Come out to the Square from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20th to experience the City’s proposed spending plan for FY18-19.  In addition to learning about the city’s plans for spending in the July 2018 – June 2019 fiscal year, the expo will feature music, food and prizes. A few of our city vehicles will be parked in the East Court Square turn around so since you were unable to make it to last Saturday’s Touch a Truck event due to the drizzle, take this chance to check some things out (before the rescheduled event on May 5th.) The event is free and open to everyone in the community.
