Since Independence Day falls of the first Wednesday of July this year, we have decided to test the Tornado Outdoor Warning Siren System this afternoon (7/3/18) at 5:00 p.m. The test should last approximately one minute. You may or may not know that the Tornado Outdoor Warning Siren System is currently receiving an upgrade and an expansion. The poles and equipment have been installed and we are close to being able to test out the new system. Stay tuned to the Decatur Minute blog and social media for details on when the upgraded siren system will be tested later in May.

Due to forecasted rains and potential thunderstorms tomorrow as well as the need to change the batteries on a few of the current sirens, we have decided to move the monthly test of the tornado outdoor warning system until next Wednesday, February 14th at 5:00 p.m.  However, as this is Severe Weather Awareness Week for the entire state, you may hear sirens on Friday, February 9th around 9 a.m. during the statewide tornado drill.
