On Friday, October 17th, the Susan G. Komen 3-Day will come through downtown Decatur from about 11:15am until about 3:30pm. Walkers and spectators will be on the sidewalks but please be patient as there may be some traffic delays. Crowds will be the heaviest in front of the DeKalb History Center.

The Decatur Craft Beer Festival is being help on the Decatur Square on Saturday, October 18th from 11am-5:00pm.   N. McDonough St, East Court Square, and Ponce de Leon Ave (between Clairemont and Chursh St) will be closed for the duration of this event. The event is Sold out and is held rain or shine.

Register your bike, receive a helmet safety check, and ride the “safety course” to learn bike safety, hand signals, rules of the road.

Join us for guided Civil War walking tours in downtown Decatur. The hour-long tour begins in the Lobby of the Historic DeKalb Courthouse and complements our new exhibit, Tears and Curses: A Human Perspective on the Civil War. You will learn about the early history of the county, the effects of the war on the civilian population in DeKalb, the Atlanta campaign, and the Battle of Decatur.

The City of Decatur has issued a film permit for Monday, October 13th in downtown Decatur. Two locations, Worthmore Jewelers and Eddie’s Attic will be used for the project. City of Decatur police will be present during the project and possible intermittent traffic control may be used on E. Court Square for brief periods of time.

As part of its 2014 annexation master planning process, the City of Decatur is currently accepting petitions to request annexation as well as requests to not be annexed. To be considered in the upcoming process, all completed petitions are due to the City Manager’s Office by Noon, Friday, October 24th.

Between now and the end of October, the City of Decatur and the City Schools of Decatur will be gathering information and scheduling public meetings. More information about the dates and locations of the public meetings is forthcoming. The City Commission and the Board of Education will meet together in a joint work session on Wednesday, November 12th to hear recommendations regarding the annexation master plan. The time and location for the meeting have not yet been set.

Decatur High School celebrates Homecoming week with a parade that begins at 5:30pm today. The route takes the parade from the high school, up West Howard turning onto Commerce Drive, turns right on W. Ponce de Leon, through downtown Decatur, right on Church Street, right on Trinity, and back to Decatur High School on McDonough Street.

This will be a rolling street closure-streets will close and re-open as soon as the parade passes through each part of Decatur.

The Metis Movement Women’s Leadership Education Conference is a two-day educational colloquium jam packed with informative sessions for both young professionals and mid-level managers.
