Google Fiber is Coming!

Google Fiber contractors are currently constructing on the south side of Decatur.  The first phase includes installing an underground infrastructure which may cause some interruptions.   They will then come back at a later date (soon to be announced) to implement the above ground infrastructure.

The contractors are in the process of obtaining the last of the permits required to complete the work in the city and will be moving through other areas of the city over the coming months. A Google Fiber installation van (pictured in Kansas City) could be coming to Decatur, Ga.

The City of Decatur has on-going coordination meetings to discuss public notification, detours, and making sure that the accurate construction process is being performed.

The Details

Beginning Wednesday, November 9, North Candler Street will be closed to through-traffic for several weeks while Astra Grading and Pipe installs new storm drainage pipes.

This will require East Howard Avenue to be closed to westbound traffic at North Candler Street. North Candler south of Pate Street will be open to two-way traffic temporarily while the new drainage system is being installed.

How to Manage

Commerce Drive, Sycamore Street, Church Street, and East Trinity Place, together, will provide a workable detour and access to all addresses. Please study the attached detour maps as your traffic patterns may be affected by construction. Detour signs will be posted throughout the affected area. The work is expected to take 4-6 weeks.

butter-and-cream

Indulge your sweet tooth with a scoop at Butter & Cream while the weather is still warm. Once it cools off, cozy up with a quality cookie! Or have the best of both worlds with their perfectly paired ice cream sandwiches. All of Butter & Cream’s offerings are “home-town made” – all in-house and with the finest ingredients.

Choose from fanciful flavors – think Campfire Chocolate, infused with bourbon and coffee – or classic, even nostalgic, tastes like Butter Pecan or Summer Strawberry. Their bakery goods are crafted with care…and butter. Delicious, delicious butter. Go for the Salted Honey Shortbread cookies or a generous slab of carrot cake.

Need a sweet stocking stuffer? Bring home handfuls of their housemade sea salt caramels. One cake short for your Thanksgiving feast? Butter & Cream to the rescue! Order ahead from their bakery menu and pass it off as your own. They won’t mind.
