We love it when we hear stories like this one: a local restaurant and store hosting an event for a Decatur-based non-profit.

On January 12 and 13, The Pinewood Tippling Room and Decatur Package Store raised $11,710 with a “Pappy Van Winkle Degustation” event.

The Pinewood — best known for their extraordinary cocktails and reinterpreted regional fare — hosted the event and served a seven-course meal. The courses were paired with a seven-whisky prix fixe, courtesy of Decatur Package Store, and featuring the infamous Pappy Van Winkle whiskeys.

Throughout the night, participants silently bid on each bottle being served, as well as the elusive 23-year-old Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye. Pappy, as it’s called by its legions of fans, is easily the most coveted bourbon in the world.
