Decatur is brightening things up as days get shorter and temps get colder! Cultures around the world hold festivals celebrating light during the winter months, and Decatur has joined in by adding sparkle to our seasonal streetscape. Days got darker starting Nov. 4; Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, kicked off on Nov. 7; and Decatur began brightening up over the weekend. You can “bah humbug” if you have to, but deep down you know that bright lights look lovely all winter! – And they shine on shops, restaurants, and local businesses during dark months. Win, win.

Go ahead and get in the spirit! – Decatur already has with Terrific Thursdays, which started Nov. 1 and continue to bring sales, special events, and good cheer through November and December. Mark your calendars for Small Business Saturday and Santa on the Square on Nov. 24, too!

Decorate Decatur 2015

Just like Decorate Decatur Halloween, Decorate Decatur for the Holidays has gone digital. We invite you to let us know about great decorative displays within the city of Decatur. Drop us an email at events@decaturga.com. Include the street address, description of the decor, and a photo of the decorated home. Send in your info by December 14, 2015 at 5 p.m. and we’ll update an online map that includes pinpoints for each location. The best display wins the coveted Commissioners Cup at the City Commission meeting on Monday, December 21.
