Colin Meloy & Carson Ellis present Wildwood Imperium

Colin Meloy, lead singer of The Decemberists, and acclaimed artist, Carson Ellis, will debut their latest in the Wildwood Chronicles with a reading and signing of Wildwood Imperium. All proceeds benefit the Decatur Education Foundation’s literacy program that ensures low-income students have access to great books and develop a lifelong love of reading. Hosted by Poverty is Real. Tickets available at Little Shop of Stories, 404-373-6300. $15 adult/$10 children.

This Month

Decatur Library
Exhibit: Owls, The Symbol of Wisdom and Knowledge
All during the month of February, the Decatur Library will exhibit the private collection of owls of Mrs. Lillian W. White (March 24, 1932-May 8, 2011), former librarian of the Durham County Library System and one of the first professionally-trained, African American librarians in the state of North Carolina. Mrs. White is the mother of Greg D. White, director of the City of Decatur’s Active Living Division.

Eat Well Indie-Catur Returns
In February, Decatur Active Living and the Decatur Visitors Center team up once again with local restaurants for the Eat Well Indie-catur Campaign. Visit a participating restaurant any day during February, choose one of the featured healthy entrees and get your Eat Well Indie-catur card. Cards are available at participating locations and at the Decatur Visitors Center, 113 Clairemont Ave. Participate three times during February and you will earn a recipe book featuring some of Decatur restaurants’ healthiest recipes.

Why not take the family out for a healthy meal on Tuesday night and be rewarded for it? Decatur Active Living and Decatur Tourism have partnered to promote healthy eating with the Eat Well Indie-Catur campaign happening in October. Eat out at any of the participating restaurants, choose the special healthy meal offered on Tuesday, get your tracker card signed by the wait person and you are on your way to earning a recipe collection! How easy is that?

Eat out any three Tuesdays, get those three signatures on your card and then turn your card in at the Decatur Visitors Center to earn your FREE recipes.

There are three Tuesdays left in the month, so get started this week! Cards are available at the participating restaurants.

This is a great opportunity to try some new dishes.
