The City of Decatur is participating in Earth Hour on Saturday, March 27 from 8:30 until 9:30 pm. Cities and states across the country are joining together to raise awareness and demonstrate our nation’s commitment to fighting climate change by joining Earth Hour. The City of Decatur will turn off the lights in City Hall as well as on the MARTA Plaza to show support for this global initiative.

The City of Decatur will be participating in Earth Hour again this year on Saturday, March 27 from 8:30 until 9:30 pm. I encourage you to turn off your lights and non-essential electrictronics. For some ideas on activities and to sign up to participate, visit the Earth Hour website.

The City of Decatur is proud to be participating in Earth Hour this Saturday, March 28, from 8:30 until 9:30 p.m. We will darken City Hall and other city buildings where feasible. Earth Hour is approaching and I am encouraging everyone to sign up to participate. “What is Earth Hour?” you may ask. According to the organizers, the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour is “a global event created to symbolize that each one of us, working together, can make a positive impact on climate change.”

March 28, 2009 at 8:30 pm tens of millions of people in hundreds of cities around the world will come together once again to make a bold statement about their concern about climate change by doing something quite simple—turning off their lights for one hour.  Earth Hour symbolizes that by working together, each of us can make a positive impact in the fight against climate change.

The City of Decatur has signed up to participate and will  turn off lights on the MARTA Plaza as well as non-essential lighting in city buildings. You too can sign up as a school, organization, or individual by visiting www.earthhourUS.org. The site also has some fun activites for children, teachers and families.  There is a Memory Game that helps children understand how they can make a difference, a Geo-Bee, and more. Also on the site are ways that families can learn to reduce their carbon footprint and increae energy efficiency at home and at school.
