If you love to run and/or if you love dogs, plan to join in the 7th annual “Run With the Dogs” on Saturday, January 7, 2012 starting in front of the Decatur High School auditorium at 9 a.m.  Registration begins at 8 a.m.

This annual event, produced by the Decatur Bulldog Boosters, is a single 5K race where runners and dog owners can run with (or without) their dogs.  All proceeds go to funding the uniform, equipment, and awards for DHS student-athletes at the middle and high schools.

This race is also the first race of the New Year in Decatur’s 2012 Grand Slam Fitness Challenge in which Team Decatur participants and the entire city are encouraged to walk/run year round.  Complete 4 of 6 Decatur races and be eligible to become a “Grand Slam Winner.”  The 2011 winners will be presented on Jan 6 right after the race.

Find registration forms on active.com and at dhs.csdecatur.net/athletics/DBB.  Or, email Bill Ainslie at ainslie.william@gmail.com.

Don’t miss this inaugural event in the DHS Theater, March 18th, 19th, and 20th at 7:30 pm each night. The Decatur High School Theatre students have been working very hard on this play. My son is playing Polonius, so I am going to be there on opening night. Ticket sales will help to support the drama program at the high school, which has given many students a great opportunity to express themselves.  Order tickets here.

Watching the Atlanta Dream

Watching the Atlanta Dream

The FitTeens Foundation of Metro Atlanta and the Atlanta’s WNBA Dream aligned for not only a win over the Detroit shock, but also a win for several teens and the fitness programs for their respective schools.

On Friday, June 26th, several teenagers attended their first professional WNBA basketball game at Phillips Arena, thanks to a great partnership with the Atlanta Dream. The Dream pulled out an impressive 96 to 86 win over Detroit and a portion of specific ticket sales went to the FitWit Foundation.

The FitWit Foundation is a 501c (3) that empowers young people to live healthier and successful lives. The Foundation provides free fitness and nutritional programs to metro area high schools, where the largest increase in diabetes and obesity is taking place. Teens from both Maynard Jackson High and Decatur City High attended the game and an autograph session after the game to meet the players up close and personal.

For more information about FitTeens please contact thefitwitfoundtion.org or michelle@fitwit.com.
