Decatur Residents

RE: South Decatur Village located at 814 South Columbia Drive

The City of Decatur would like residents to be aware of development activity at the intersection S. Columbia and Katie Kerr. South Decatur Village has received approval to build a mixture of townhomes and single family homes (50+ total).

After plan approval by the City Commission, plans were submitted for a land disturbance permit through the City’s Design, Environment & Construction Division. Staff has determined that the land disturbance plan meets all City requirements.

At this time, residents should expect to see a lot of activity at the building site starting with tree removal and site grading work.

While a number of trees will be removed from the site, 18 trees will be preserved on the site and 86 trees will be required to be planted at the site after construction. Total tree canopy at the site upon completion will be 78,604 square feet. Final approval of the development will depend in part on staff confirmation of all required tree replacement.

Residents can expect land clearing work to begin as soon as January 25th.

If you have any questions, please contact Design, Environment & Construction Division Director John Maximuk at John.Maximuk@decaturga.com or 678.553.6570.

Winter Weather Advisory (4)

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for DeKalb County from 5 p.m. tonight through 7 a.m. tomorrow, Jan. 17. It has also issued a wind chill advisory** from 9 p.m. tonight through 1 p.m. tomorrow. A winter weather advisory means that winter weather is expected and that residents should use caution.  Light amounts of wintry precipitation or patchy blowing snow will cause slick conditions and could affect travel if precautions are not taken.

At this point, the City Commission will meet tonight as scheduled and the city will be open for regular business hours tomorrow. Updates will be posted here, decaturga.com and the city’s official social media channels.

For more information on the difference between a winter weather advisory, watch and warning, check out the National Weather Service’s winter information page at www.nws.noaa.gov/om/winter/ww.shtml

**A wind chill advisory means that cold air and the wind will combine to create low wind chills. Frost bite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken.

East Lake Logo Flower

The stakeholders of three different municipalities, one transit system, and a variety of businesses and environmental interest groups have come together to develop a vision for the place they share – the East Lake MARTA Station.  Your input over the last two months and six events generated several concept diagrams for the East Lake MARTA Station study area. Now’s the time to share, once again, your feedback on each of the concepts for the north parking lot, the south parking lot, potential future AT&T redevelopment, and street improvements for East Lake Drive, College Avenue, and Park Place.  You’ll want to allow 15-20 minutes to complete the survey that can be found here, http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/4037001/ELMConcepts.
