I’m always constantly bragging about Decatur’s amazing restaurants to non-Decaturites. I love eating out in this town and I sign up for every restaurant e-news list. So, here are a couple local restaurant tidbits I’ve received this week:
Farm Burger is encouraging everyone to do a little summer reading by checking out their blog. Why add one more blog to your reader? Because Farm Burger will be posting about its harvest, discussing the differences between omega 3s and 6s, announcing when their piggies are born on their farm and other general FB happenings. I’ve already added their blog to my summer reading list and just hope they add a comments function to their blog so I can tell them how much they rock.
July is National Bison Month (who knew!?) and Ted’s Montana Grill is celebrating with its introduction of Bison Nachos (picture above), the new Red Rock Burger (covered with grated pepper jack cheese, fresh-diced jalapenos, chopped cilantro and friend onion straws) and Ted’s is bringing back “Eat Great for $8.” The return of the $8 lunch entrees include Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken, Pulled BBQ Chicken Sandwich, Bowl of Soup and Half Chopped Salad, Meatloaf Sandwich and Delicious Duo.
Parker’s has some great daily specials: Prime Rib every Sunday, 3 course prix fixe dinner for $25 on Mondays, half price draft beer on Tuesdays, half price bottled wine on Wednesdays, lunch 3 course prix fixe meal for $13 every Monday through Friday and half price appetizers at the bar from 4 to 7 p.m. every Sunday through Thursday.
So the real question is, what are you in the mood for today? Burger? Bison? or Steak?

Hey All:
As most of you know, Billy and Kristin Allin’s wonderful restaurant Cakes and Ale will be relocating to the historic square. They are working with Rosebriar Partnerships, the owners of the storefronts, to peel off the layers of bad 1960’s updates. We’ve got pictures of what those buildings look like under the tarps.
I’m having trouble deciding what I am more excited about, the restoration of the buildings or the promise of a bakery with real bagels! Either way, Decatur’s square will be changed forever and big Kudos goes to the Allins and Rosebriar Partnership for making this happen in our city!

Some of you may remember earlier this spring how we joined with four other cities in metro Atlanta to apply for Google’s Fiber for Communities project. Need to jog your memory? Check out our Google Fiber for Communities posts here, here and here.
With over 1,100 community submissions Google has yet to choose the lucky test community, but they did recently create a Google Fiber page. It contains information on fiber, how to improve broadband in communities and this great thank you video:

I don’t have any kids and I’ve never been one to consider myself a kid at heart, but I do love fashion and lately I’ve noticed that Decatur has some pretty fashionable clothing options for kids and babies. Wiggle, a Decatur kids fashion favorite, is smack dab in the middle of its summer sale. Get the details on their Facebook page. Blue Caboose and Feather Baby are new additions to the Decatur kid fashion scene. Blue Caboose is tucked away behind Cafe Lily and Sushi Avenue on West Ponce and sells both consignment and new clothing for babies and toddlers. Feather Baby, located between Fleet Feet and Twist ‘n’ Scoot, has adorable (I hardly ever use that word) organic clothing. And Salon Red Kids has a window full of LilliWear including the popular “Messy Girl” Reversible Dresses. I wish someone would make a reversible dress in my size! Until then, I’ll be visiting all these shops for my friends’ kids.
