This Thanksgiving, Ted’s Montana Grill will be serving up a three-course classic turkey meal for guests who want to skip the cooking and get right down to the celebration. Select Ted’s Montana Grill restaurants will be open all day on Nov. 24, noon to 6 p.m. (hours may vary by restaurant), offering a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, along with many classic favorites.

Ted’s Thanksgiving Day meal starts with a side salad or a cup of creamy tomato soup or Karen’s “Flying-D” Bison Chili, followed by oven-roasted turkey and gravy with garlic mashed potatoes, herb dressing, country-style green beans, “Aunt Fannie’s” squash casserole and cranberry sauce. The finale is Apple Pecan Crisp, a rich, fall-inspired dessert topped with Häagen-Dazs® ice cream. Ted’s Thanksgiving meal is $23 per person (prices may vary by restaurant).
For the kids, restaurants will offer a more “pint-sized” turkey and dressing meal for just $11 per child (prices may vary), which includes the same sides as the adult meal and a made-from-scratch cookie. And for those non-turkey eaters, the restaurants will be featuring many of Ted’s other classic favorites such as Ted’s Filet, Delmonico Ribeye, a Sirloin and Salmon combination, gourmet beef and bison burgers, Bison Meatloaf, Pot Roast, Cedar Plank Salmon, St. Phillip’s Island Crab Cakes, and a variety of appetizers, sides and desserts. Thanksgiving Day wine features include $5 glasses and half-priced bottles.

Update: Nov. 16:

Wahoo! Grill will be open late the evening before Thanksgiving from 5 to 10 p.m., for diners to take a break from the hectic shopping week and enjoy an electic, Southern-inspired dinner prepared by the restaurant’s executive chef.

Oakhurst Market is now taking orders for Thanksgiving (organic) turkeys and sides. Take a look at the market’s Facebook page to see a full list.

Sawicki’s Thanksgiving menu is now posted on the site. Check it out here.

The community is invited to attend the annual memorial ceremony on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. to honor the men and women who fought for our country.  The service will be held in Decatur Cemetery in front of the American Legion memorial (use the Bell Street entrance).

For the 3rd year, the Friends of the Decatur Cemetery (FODC), in conjunction with the American Legion Harold Byrd Post 66, coordinated the placement of American flags on the graves of the veterans of all wars who are buried in the Decatur Cemetery.  So far, they have located the graves of more than 900 veterans buried in the cemetery.

Last Saturday, the FODC, American Legion Post 66, Decatur Boy Scouts, volunteers from Agnes Scott College and Decatur High School and the community placed all 900+ flags.  I went by to see the results and sure enough, there was a flag on the grave of my mother’s father.  I never knew him as he died before I was born but it was heartwarming to see the flag.

Thanks to those who gave up their time for this worthwhile project.  Here are a few action shots:

The City of Decatur Environmental Sustainability Board invites the community to review and comment on the first draft of the Decatur Environmental Sustainability Plan.

WHEN: Thursday, November 10 from 6 – 8 p.m. (drop in)

WHERE: City Commission Meeting Room, Decatur City Hall, 509 N. McDonough Street

The members of the Environmental Sustainability Board (ESB).

Decatur residents submitted hundreds of ideas of how Decatur can become even more environmentally sustainable during the 2010 Strategic Planning process.  One of the tasks in the final plan is to “Develop a citywide sustainability plan with the assistance of the environmental sustainability board to address issues such as the creation of a climate action plan, initiatives such as an ordinance to limit motor vehicle idling and roof color standards to reduce the heat island effect.”

The draft plan will be presented at the meeting and be available online for review and comment up to 3 weeks after the meeting.  More public input will also be gathered using online tools like Open City Hall and at public meetings as more revisions are made to the plan. If you would like a link to the plan emailed to you, please contact the meeting coordinator using the information below.

In addition to looking at and commenting on the draft plan, the open house will include recycling demonstrations, rain barrels and other environmental initiatives to explore.  Please stop by anytime between 6 – 8 p.m.
