Co-existing with coyotes

As many of you know, the City of Decatur does not have a policy to remove coyotes from the area but instead promotes co-existence. Would you like to know what this looks like or learn how to best go about practicing co-existence? If you would like answers to these questions and many more, the Druid Hills Civic Association is sponsoring a metro-wide information session on Tuesday, January
29th at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of the Epiphany. I heard one of the speakers, Chris Mowery, at an event hosted by the Fernbank Science Center several months ago. He was quite knowledgeable and I enjoyed listening to him.

For more information about the information session, contact Bob Ballou (rcballou@bellsouth.net) or visit http://coyotecoexistence.com.

To view the City’s coyote information, check out the Coyote page on our website.

Remembering The Newtown Victims

The City of Decatur will join with cities in Henry County and other cities throughout the state by ringing church bells 26 times on Friday, December 21 at 9:30 a.m. in memory of the twenty children and six adults lost in the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.

All churches and institutions with bells are invited to participate to help us show the people of Newtown that we share in their grief.  If you have no bells to ring, then please pause at 9:30 a.m. on Friday to think about the 26 victims of this tragedy and those who knew and loved them.

Decorate Decatur Winners!

Despite the wind and the rain, Decatur residents and businesses put on quite a display of holiday lights and décor! You’ll see a wide variety of decorating styles in Decatur this year- everything from classic white lights and greenery to vintage Santa cut outs and inflatable snowmen. You’ll even find a huge, candle-lit menorah complete with the Toy Story dinosaur and pig!

This year’s Commissioners Cup winner mixed colorful lights, adorable inflatables, and festive greenery. Congratulations to our friends and neighbors at 208 Mead Road!
