Flamenco dancers, jugglers, puppets, and comedians will be just some of the fun and entertainment for children and adults at Decatur Arts Live on August 21, from 10:00am – 2:00pm at Glennwood Academy in Decatur.  The event is a joint venture between the Glennwood PTO and Young Audiences, Woodruff Arts Center.  It is designed to support the Cultural Arts enrichment program at Glennwood and to showcase the diversity of professional artists working with Young Audiences.

The fun begins at 10:00 am as attendees rotate through a schedule of simultaneous performances, hands-on activities, and workshops. Families can enjoy performances from YAWAC artists such as Andy Offutt Irwin, Kathy Bennett, Jeff Mather and Greg Roth. Guests will listen to live musical performances and may speak one-on-one with artists about their craft.  The event is appropriate for children aged pre-K through fifth grade and is open to the public. The school café will serve family-friendly snacks and lunch.

The Glennwood PTO is hosting Decatur Arts Live, and all funds raised by Decatur Arts Live will support educational arts programs at Glennwood Academy. The school is located at 440 E. Ponce de Leon Avenue, Decatur, GA 30030.

Tickets purchased in advance are $10 for adults, $5 for kids, or $20 per family. If purchased the day of the event, tickets will be $15 for adults, $8 for kids, or $25 per family.

The Waldorf School of Atlanta and Academe of the Oaks hosted more than 250 Waldorf teachers and administrators at the 2010 AWSNA Summer Conference on the campus of Agnes Scott College.  AWSNA, the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America, is the membership organization for more than 250 Waldorf schools in North America and this is the first time they have held the conference in the southeast.

Rhonda Wildman sent us some of the Decatur experiences shared by conference participants including:

FarmBurger was a big hit – especially the veggie burger and the fried okra.  People loved the food at Farmstead 303 – on the day they visited, they were thrilled to be greeted by former President Jimmy Carter.  One group frequented The Iberian Pig four times during their week-long stay in Decatur.  The sandwiches from Badda Bing and Nectar were very popular.  And finally, there were many sightings of Squash Blossom shopping bags during the duration of the conference.

The Waldorf School and Academe of the Oaks were proud to host this annual conference and proud to share all that Decatur has to offer.  One of the conference participants noted on the evaluation, “Decatur gets a 10 out of 10 for beauty, graciousness and fabulous hosting and hospitality.”

I have been saying it for weeks and weeks but this Sunday I finally put my foot down…my daughter Molly needed a haircut! She has the most adorable little curls in the back, but the front was looking a little too much like Justin Bieber. Plus, it was in her eyes all the time and she was constantly getting food in it. My husband and I have been fighting the idea of cutting her hair because we have spent the first year of her life celebrating every hair on her tiny head, but enough is enough.

We popped in to Salon Red Kids and we were in heaven! Besides having the most adorable retail shop full of toys, clothes, hair bows, and whatnots-there is a kiddie salon set up in the back of the store.
Miss TJ, the hairstylist, plopped Molly into the fire engine chair and quickly secured a pink cape around her neck. She listened to what we wanted and got to work on Molly’s hair, all while keeping Mols occupied with toys and noise-makers.
At the end of the cut, she styled her up and presented me with a tiny pink draw-string bag with Molly’s first little curls. It was a perfect experience. And I haven’t even told you the best part…
IT COST $5!!!!!!!!!!!!!
