Worthmore Jewelers is holding its annual care package item collection drive through Sunday, Nov. 10 to benefit U.S. troops through the organization Operation Stars and Stripes.

WorthmoreJewelers_Stars&Stripes

For this year’s drive, Worthmore is pitting its Decatur and Midtown stores against each other to see who can gather the most donations of candy and other supplies. Support the troops and help your neighborhood win by bringing in donations to the Worthmore Decatur Square location (117 East Court Square) starting Nov. 1. All who donate will be entered into a random drawing to win a $50.00 Worthmore Jewelers gift card.

Suggested donation items include: unwanted Halloween candy, toiletries, entertainment items, prepackaged snacks, and warm weather clothes. A full list of items accepted at the drive can be found here: operationstarsandstripes.org/?page_id=33.

Worthmore has been working with the Operation Stars and Stripes organization for the past five years. “These collection drives are a simple way for us to show our troops that we support them and appreciate their sacrifice,” said Harris Botnick, Worthmore founder and owner. “For every care package sent, we have received a heart-warming thank you letter back. Sometimes these packages are the only things our servicemen and women receive all year.”

Let’s help Decatur win! Bring in your donations by this Sunday.

Don’t forget to dine out on Tuesday, October 1 for the Restaurants for Repairs fundraiser.  A percentage of the days proceeds from participating restaurants will be donated to support the Decatur MLK Jr. Service Project.  Restaurants for Repairs remains the only public fundraiser for this worthy cause, and last year we raised enough to repair 3 senior citizen’s homes.

For those folks looking for a healthy option, Tuesday also marks the kick off for the Eat Well Indie-Catur Campaign, and several restaurants are participating in both events.

Hope to see you there.
