Baskin Robbins is “scooping up thanks” for firefighters on Wednesday, April 27 at the 5th annual 31 Cent Scoop Night.  At all Baskin Robbins locations nationwide from 5 – 10 p.m. they will offer their 2.5 oz ice cream scoop for 31 cents.  In addition, they will donate $100,000 to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF).  The NFFF honors America’s fallen heroes and their families by developing and expanding programs to recognize fallen heroes and assist their families and co-workers.

So, what does that have to do with the City of Decatur?

Well, Bill Mitchell, Baskin-Robbins Vice President, grew up in Decatur and as part of the celebration, he visited Decatur’s Fire Station #2 this afternoon.  He brought samples of Baskin-Robbins April Flavor of the Month – Firehouse #31 – created in honor of 31 Cent Scoop Night.

Today also happens to be Decatur Firefighter/Driver Jim Palmer’s birthday so he got the first scoop!

If you like atomic fireballs or cinnamon candies mixed with vanilla ice cream, you will love Firehouse #31.  Bill Mitchell is pictured at the top of the post with Fire Chief Toni Dixon and the firefighters.  Welcome home Bill!

The Hunt Will Go On!

Despite speculation that tomorrow morning may be rainy, the Decatur Business Association’ s  Easter Egg Hunt on the Square will go on, rain or shine.

If it is actually raining when it is time to start the festivities, the Easter Bunny will be visiting with kids and families under the Community Bandstand. Rather than hunting, there will be goodies bags for everyone who braves the rain to join us.

And if you do manage to make it out to the Square, please take a moment to thank all of our wonderful sponsors who make this event happen! You can find out more about them on the DBA website.
