The Flux Projects brought FAV (Flute and Video) to the square last night – and plenty of spectators!

The visual concert was about an hour long. It was so fun to see people walk up to the square to check it out and then plop down right on the MARTA plaza and watch the rest of the performance.

For more information about Flux Projects and FAV, visit www.fluxprojects.org

Thank you to the Decatur Arts Alliance and Anne Dennington for organizing such a great event!

What do zombies, ghosts, and Tennessee Williams have in common?  At PushPush Theater this week 26 children ranging in age from eight to fourteen have taken what they have learned at summer camp and will perform Tennessee Williams’s “Will Mr. Meriweather Return from Memphis,” a play about ghosts, zombies and finding love.

You can see the performances at noon on Thursday, June 30 and Friday, July 1.  Tickets are $5.  Tickets are selling quickly so call 404-377-6332 or email pushpushtheater@gmail.com to make your reservation(s).

PushPush is also enrolling for their second camp session beginning July 11 – July 29.  The second camp production will focus on Tennessee Williams’ later writing.  Williams wrote several fun comedies and the production is broken up into 20 individual scenes with many main roles.  This allows campers to find partners on their own level and provides more film scene work for the actors.

If photography is more to your liking, be sure to participate in The Seen Gallery’s Photography Contest.  All it takes is a cell phone camera and your vision.  The contest is open to all.  Click here for details.

If you do not want to take a photo and submit it, you can always go to Facebook and vote for your favorite shot.  The best photo will be used in the Atlanta Celebrates Photography festival guide listing so you MUST vote by 11 p.m. on Thursday, June 30.  You can vote for up to 5 photos.

Decatur resident and Southface expert Frank Burdette, will help attendees understand how most homes leak energy and explain what projects can make your home more comfortable and easier to heat and cool. DecaturWISE approved contractors will be at the event to answer detailed questions and get you started if you are interested.

The band is all set up and ready for the dancing to begin.

In less than two hours this "beach" will be packed with kids and parents.

The Beach Party food court

The Surf Wave - one of the many boardwalk games this year

Yes, the Decatur Beach Party has arrived! It starts at 5 p.m. today and ends at midnight, but that doesn’t mean the fun stops there. Here are a couple of other activities going in Decatur (mostly Father’s Day related) after the sand gets sweep off of Ponce de Leon:

Decatur CD is hosting a Bon Iver Listening Party on Saturday. Here’s what the staff has to say about it:

First things, first, this Saturday we’ll be partying Bon Iver style. No, that doesn’t mean we’ll be exiling ourselves in a Wisconsin cabin (plane tickets are expensive!), nor will Kanye West be hanging out at the store (he cancelled at the last minute). Rather, in honor of the new Bon Iver album coming Tuesday, the rather aptly-titled Bon Iver, we’ll be playing the album all day, selling a special 12″ vinyl bonus record, handing out posters and more. It’s gonna be fun. If you haven’t read it yet, you should check out the Bon Iver feature in the new Rolling Stone (Zach Galifianakis cover); it’s pretty darn great.

Take your dad out to Iberian Pig this Sunday and he will receive a restaurant gift card as well as a free golf swing analysis with Craig Forney, one of Georgia’s best golf instructors.

Celebrate Father’s Day at Carpe Diem. Dad’s get a free beer with a purchase of an entree.

Wahoo! Grill will be open until 10 p.m. on Sunday for Father’s Day. Specials include pecan crusted sea scallops and a 10-ounce certified Angus beef New York Strip.

If you’re planning ahead for next week, stop by the First Baptist Church of Decatur on Tuesday, June 21 at 8 p.m. for the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra Concert with special guest Adam Frey.

Saturday, June 11 • 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
N. McDonough St. and E. Trinity Pl.

The Decatur Farmers Market is beginning its second year of offering a Saturday morning gathering place for purchasing fresh, locally grown, organic and sustainable food products. On Saturday, June 11, the market will celebrate with live music by the Decatur Ukulele Society, face painting, and other activities.

Come and enjoy the two new picnic tables under the shady magnolia. For those who travel on two wheels, a bike rack has been recently installed for your convenience. Four wheelers have plenty of free parking in the Calloway Building lot at the corner of Trinity Place and Commerce Drive.

The market provides an opportunity to buy from and speak directly with the local farmers and food producers who offer goods produced by sustainable methods. Maria and Joel from Café Campesino Atlanta will have their organic coffee, iced tea, scones and muffins. Cool off with  frozen delights from the King of Pops and the Pop Shop. Be prepared to go home with fresh, nutritious locally grown produce. Sample the market delights prepared by Leon’s sous chef Robert Lupo. The market will have recyclable bags to purchase if you forget your own, new T-shirts and insulated reusable tumblers.

The Decatur Farmers Market is open year-round on Saturdays and on Wednesday afternoons. The Saturday Market is on the East side of the square at N. McDonough and E. Trinity Place, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The Wednesday market is on Commerce between Clairemont Avenue and Church Street, 4-7 p.m.

Buying locally grown, organically produced food enriches cultural standards, protects ecological integrity, supports regional economies and decreases dependence on nonrenewable resources. The community is a big part of the market’s success and they invite Decatur to come and celebrate with them!

Attendees will also learn about a limited time opportunity to get up to $3,200 in rebates from City of Decatur and Georgia Power. Funding from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act has allowed the City of Decatur to offer residents who undertake energy saving retrofits on their homes an additional $1,000 on top of existing rebates from Georgia Power.  It’s a great deal and many of your neighbors have already participated since the program’s launch in April. Learn more by visiting our website.
