If you’ve spent some time on the square today or if you follow Downtown Decatur on Facebook, you already know about the new lawn furniture:

Grab a book from a nearby Little Free Library and curl up on one of the new Adirondack chairs or just have a seat and enjoy some good people watching.

Yes, we know the chairs are not nailed down. That’s on purpose so they can be moved for festivals. So if you notice someone trying to take off with one of the chairs (which is not an easy feat because they’re not light), put a stop to it. Call them out or call the non-emergency Decatur police department number, 404-373-6551. Do the same if you see someone drawing on or tagging the chairs.

But most importantly of all, we want you to enjoy the chairs. Come out, get some vitamin D and enjoy the view!

The Decatur Police Department will be at the Decatur Farmers Market on the front lawn of the First Baptist Church Decatur (308 Clairemont Avenue) conducting Bicycle Registrations for Earth Day this Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 4pm-7pm.

If you ride your bicycle to the Decatur Farmers Market on Earth Day, you will receive $5 in tokens to spend at the market. Visit the info booth to receive your tokens.

DFM 2014-04-22

Bicycles are a commonly stolen item and are not registered like vehicles. Bicycle registration includes providing owner contact information, having the manufacturer and serial number documented and having a numbered decal applied to and a photo taken of your bicycle. The process takes just a few minutes. Registering your bicycle allows officers to look up recovered bicycles and contact the owner and allows for us to quickly look up the needed information about your bicycle if it were to be stolen. The information is kept in a secured database only accessible by police department staff. *There is NO CHARGE to register your bicycle.

For additional information, please contact Lt. Jennifer Ross at jennifer.ross@decaturga.com or 678/553-6613

Due to severe weather, the 2015 Earth Day Festival has been canceled. There is no alternative rain date for this event, so we will see you again in 2016!

Remember that Earth Day was founded to raise public consciousness about air and water pollution.  This is a great time of year to think about how you and your family can minimize your impact on the planet. Small changes can add up, and the Wylde Center is a great source for environmental education. Check out their website at wyldecenter.org.
