City of Decatur Noise Ordiance
Posted in Community on May 12, 2015 | 2 Comments »
A community member recently used the Submit a Service Request feature on DecaturGa.com to ask about the City’s noise ordinance. She suggested that we blog about the ordinance as a refresher for everyone, and I think that’s a great idea.
The basics of the ordinance can be found in the following table:
dB(A) stands for decibels. For the residential land use category, sounds that are above 60 decibels are not allowed between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. To give you an idea of the measurement, an air conditioner runs at about 50 dB(A) and a lawnmower is around 90 dB(A).
You can find the full ordinance on Municode here.
If there is a noise violation in progress, please call the police non-emergency number to report it, 404-373-6551.

Taking advantage of the good (aka non-rainy) weather, general contractor CMES installed a new storm drainage line on Mead Road across from Harmony Park. There has been steady progress with new curbing and sidewalks on the north side of the Mead Road extension. This will continue this week, with the work moving in a northerly direction on the west side of Oakview Road towards West Benson Street.

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Decatur Business Association, the DBA along with the City of Decatur has decided to shake up our traditional summer event, the Decatur Beach Party, and make a huge SPLASH this summer. For one day only, there will be a 1000 foot long water slide in the middle of W. Ponce de Leon Ave, stretching from Clairemont down just past Ponce de Leon Place. The event is called Slide the City and this event has been sweeping the nation!
You can expect more details ( and ticket information) in the next few weeks but for now, mark your calendars for Saturday, July 25th and start shopping for your favorite inflatable!
Check out the video of the slide here
