Posted in Community, Meetings, Transportation on January 9, 2012 | 2 Comments »
At Clairemont, Church Street and Commerce Intersections and Church Street Bicycle Lanes
A community workshop to discuss alternative plans for pedestrian safety improvements at Clairemont, Church Street and Commerce intersections and Church Street bicycle lanes will be held on Thursday, January 12, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. in the City Commission meeting room of Decatur City Hall, 509 North McDonough Street, in downtown Decatur. As part of the City’s capital improvements program, the purpose of the work is to improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians, bicyclists and others using these facilities.
The City has retained the firm of Development Planning and Engineering to help plan the project, which will be partially funded through grants from the Georgia Department of Transportation. An initial workshop to outline project goals was held in September.
The project is based on Decatur’s 2008 Community Transportation Plan and is a project in the 2010 Strategic Plan. A major goal of the Community Transportation Plan is to encourage healthy lifestyles and active living in Decatur.

This winter PushPush Theater is offering two new afterschool workshops for teens.
Filmmaking for the Young Actor
Ages 13-17
Feb. 23-April 26, Thursdays 4:30-7 p.m.
This fast paced and exciting workshop is for both beginning and intermediate level filmmakers with a focus on acting. Participants will learn the basics of acting for the camera and film productions. Over the course of this workshop we will complete a short film of an original script. Each young actor will get the opportunity to work on a unique and challenging role through script and character analysis. The production crew will be comprised of participants enrolled in the Pre/Post Production workshop.
Pre/Post Production for the Young Filmmakers
Ages 13-17
Feb. 6-April 26, Mondays and Thursdays 4:30-7:30 p.m.
This is a fun and challenging opportunity for young aspiring filmmakers to learn the basics of filmmaking. Industry standard software will be used to plan, produce and promote a short film. The workshop will have three components; pre-production (storyboarding, art direction, make-up & costume design, location scouting and more), production (directing, lighting, studio and location shooting, equipment operation, set dressing, etc.), and finally post-production (3-point editing, sound design, color correction, and special effects). This workshop is structured to give each participant time to develop their particular area of interest whether they want to direct, shoot, edit or produce.
