A note from City of Decatur Volunteer Coordinator Lee Ann Harvey:
“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” – You might have associated this quote with the U.S. Postal Service. This year, it is the creed of Decatur’s 9th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Service Project. The volunteer planning committee has been busily working all week to prepare for this weekend. We are looking forward to hundreds of volunteers showing up to do home repairs and yard work to help our seniors live safely, comfortably and affordably in their own homes. There is a warming trend this weekend.
It will still be a bit cold on Saturday morning, so those interested in doing yard work might want to consider signing up for another shift. We will still be doing some yard work on Saturday morning. Home repairs will continue all weekend as planned. We would especially love more volunteers who can do home repairs or are fairly proficient with carpentry. We also still could use some additional volunteers with trucks who could pick up additional supplies at the Edgewood Lowes and deliver them to the homes in Oakhurst, especially on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and all day on Monday. There are other opportunities to help with checking out and checking in tools. If you are familiar with yard work, please consider joining us as a Yard Work Captain.
