Decatur announced its newest 2009 Hometown Heroes at the Decatur Business Association Holiday Party at the Holiday Inn Decatur Conference Plaza. Hometown Heroes are those folks that work, mostly behind the scenes, to make our community a better place to live and work. And they work for free!
Decatur started its Hometown Hero program at the close of the 1996 Summer Games after our Hometown to the World Festival during the Olympics. We put on a 10-day festival thanks to hundreds of volunteers who helped make it happen.
This year marks the 13th year of honoring volunteers and we now have 217 Hometown Heroes. You can see the photos from each year at City Hall – they are on the wall that goes down the steps to the City Commission Meeting Room.
Pictured here with our City Commissioners are our newest Hometown Heroes – Bill & Vicki Ainslie, Michelle Bray, Bill Bryson, Greg & Nicole Coleson, Mary & Bill Flad, Gary Kronick, Dot Moye, Mercedes Pasqualetti, and Vernita Pinto.
Thanks for all you do for Decatur!
