Mix 1 part sunscreen with 1 part beach ball and 2 parts hot dogs. Add one pair of giant scissors, and what do you have? The Glenlake Pool ribbon cutting ceremony of course. The City of Decatur ordered up perfect weather for the re-opening ceremony this past Friday as City Commissioners Mary Alice Kemp and Kecia Cunningham cut the ribbon and welcomed the first guests into the newly renovated poolhouse. So began the never-ending debate over who was the first to jump in the pool. I heard more than a few children claim the title, but alas, the world may never know the truth. Check out the great pictures below.
Remember that Glenlake Park remains closed for construction but parking is available on both sides of Church Street. The new poolhouse and pool upgrades were funded by the City’s Capital Improvement Bond Program. Look for the final touches to be added in the next few weeks.
I’m very confused. My wife just tried to take our daughter to the Glenlake Pool, but it was closed.
Here, you say the “park” will be closed for construction. Is the pool closed as well? When will it open? That’s kinda misleading having a ribbon-cutting ceremony for something that is technically closed. Why on earth did Decatur do that?
The pool was unexpectedly closed for repairs on Tuesday, June 9th. We apologize for an inconvenience. Glenlake Park is closed for construction, however, the pool is now officially open… we promise. The pool will be re-opened on Wednesday, June 10th.
