Earth Day Festival Canceled

cloud-157531_1280

Due to severe weather, the 2015 Earth Day Festival has been canceled. There is no alternative rain date for this event, so we will see you again in 2016!

Remember that Earth Day was founded to raise public consciousness about air and water pollution.  This is a great time of year to think about how you and your family can minimize your impact on the planet. Small changes can add up, and the Wylde Center is a great source for environmental education. Check out their website at wyldecenter.org.

Wet weather continues to be a challenge. CMES, the general contractor, has generally completed curb and sidewalk improvements on the northeast side of East Lake Drive and is making progress on the stone retaining wall along Oakview Road at the Old Scottish Rite property. Weather permitting, the contractor will start work next week (April 17) on the west side of Oakview Road near West Benson Street and move towards Mead Road.

GS Construction has generally completed curbing and sidewalk improvements on the west side of Church Street up to East Maple Street. Next week, weather permitting,  work will continue north of Maple up to East Trinity Place. Once this phase is finished, the contractor will drop back to East Howard and build new curbing on the east side of Church St., moving in a northerly direction up to Trinity. After the new curb line is established, Georgia Power will relocate utility poles along the east side of Church.

The 2015 Decatur Earth Day Festival is charging ahead. So put on your boots and pointy hat, and join us at the Oakhurst Garden this Sunday. The parade starts at 12:30 from Harmony Park in Oakhurst, and the event is from 1pm-4pm. See the website for more details: wyldecenter.org/decatur-earth-day-festival

This is a rain or shine event, but in the case of severe or unsafe weather, the cancellation notice will be posted here at thedecaturminute.com. Please check back for updates.

Robert Ellis
Monday, April 27
8:00pm / doors at 6:30pm

Robert Ellis is the kind of songwriter who only comes along once in a great while. With his first two albums, a promise was made. With his new record, The Lights from the Chemical Plant, that promise has been delivered and fully realized. The music, like the artist, refuses to accept the confines of a box, and burns white-hot from the inside out. But what seems even more striking about this record, this musician, even at a first glance, is that feeling of unyielding authenticity. With every remarkable cut, with every twist and turn, Robert’s life and his experience, shine through.

Advance general admission: $15      At the door: $20        Table of 4: $75
