Those already involved reflect a diverse mix of voices across multiple lines – race, income, interests, household type and political inclinations, to name but a few. In short, they look a whole lot like our city overall.
If you’ve already registered to participate, thank you. But if you haven’t, click here for the Top Five Reasons why you might want to reconsider

Atlanta artist Dawn Kinney Martin will be featured at a reception at the Decatur Gallery this coming Saturday, from 5 until 10 pm. Dawn is an Atlanta-based artist with national and international collectors. Each year she photographs landscapes and structures during her travels and paints from these photos throughout the year. Dawn has also become a favorite for her depictions of local landmarks such as Taco Mac and the Highland Pub.
The Gallery will provide light hors d’oeuvres and beverages during the reception. Plus if the weather is pleasant, they will open their outdoor artist market in front of the Gallery and try and coax Dawn into doing a painting demonstration! Sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday evening in Decatur!
April 7th – A Day to Remember!

Just in case you need a reason to visit one of our fine restaurants or pubs…….
At 12:01 AM on April 7, 1933 – after 13 years of prohibition – legal beer went on sale in 19 states and the District of Columbia. In the first 24 hours an estimated 1.5 million barrels of beer were enjoyed by the exuberant masses! Proprietors sold beer at five cents a glass or ten cents a bottle. Grocery stores sold beer for $2 a case of 24 pints. Night clubs held special parties and cities hosted midnight celebrations to welcome the return of legal beer. Official repeal followed 8 months later – but April 7th will forever be known as “Brew Year’s Eve”.

Design a Library Card

Pull out your paints, pens, or computers and help DeKalb County Library design a limited edition library card. The Design-a-Library-Card art contest begins Tuesday, April 13 in three age groups – children (5-12), teens (13-17) and adults (18 and older).
Details will be available at library branches (including the Decatur Library) and at www.dekalblibrary.org after the launch of the contest on April 13. Get an early start so you will be ready to send in your winning design before the final deadline on June 1, 2010.
While you’re taking a break from designing, pull together your old/used books to donate to the Friends of the Decatur Library for their special sale during the Decatur Arts Festival in May. Donations are accepted at the Decatur Branch – just drop them off at the front desk with a note that says for the “Friends of the Decatur Library.” They use the proceeds to fund a variety of special programs including the popular music series.
And you thought the library was only for reading!
