New Orleans SnoBall Cafe is celebrating its first birthday today. Stop by for free tastings during the day, then come at 6 p.m. for live jazz music, creole cooking, new featured items and specialty treats by Chayj’s.

If you’ve never been to New Orleans SnoBall Cafe, this is the perfect day to try the deliciousness that is a New Orleans-style snoball. Flavors include cafe au lait, fresh-squeezed fruit, agave and sugar-free choices. My favorite combination is pink lemonade and coconut. Yum.

The first 50 people who purchase a birthday stuffed snoball will receive a New Orleans Mardi Gras souvenir cup to take home.

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Parker’s on Ponce is hosting A Benefit for Renee’s Head on Monday, June 13, 6-11 p.m. for its bartender Renee Andrus. Andrus recently had to have a brain tumor removed and does not have health insurance. The restaurant is hosting the benefit to help Renee and her family pay for her medical bills.

Parker’s won’t be serving from its regular menu on Monday night, but there will be delicious food, door prizes, a silent auction, a special guest host and live music featuring SidAerial, The Evan Hodges and Trey Wright Jazz Duo and more.

Donations at the door at $10 (or whatever you can afford).

All of the proceeds from the silent auction and the door raffle will go to help pay Renee’s hospital expenses.

If you’d like to make a donation visit www.therlafoundation.org/donate for instructions.

Just wanted to do a quick blog post so we don’t you hanging from  this post  yesterday. Guess what TOMS is now selling? *Hint: the answer is in the title of this post.*

That’s right! Glasses! Squash Blossom unveiled the new product at 1:36 p.m. today along with 99 other shops around the country. Nordstrom and Squash Blossom were the only two locations in Georgia that received a TOMS package.

Unlike TOMS shoe program where you buy one pair and a second pair is given to a child in need, the glasses program is a little different. When you buy a pair of glasses, eye care is given to someone in need. That might mean an eye exam or a new pair of glasses or cataract surgery. The TOMS website is currently down – probably because everyone is clamoring to see the new product – but there’s a great video on the site that you can watch once it comes back up that helps explain it all.

The glasses are around $135 – a definite investment, but for a great cause. Stop by Squash Blossom to purchase a pair of TOMS glasses and/or a pair of TOMS shoes that are still available. The shop has a variety of TOMS styles that we all (of us here at the office) got our hands on.

Most of you know about TOMS shoes. For every pair of TOMS that is purchased, a pair of new shoes is given to a child in need. After 5 years of successful shoe donations, TOMS is taking its next step tomorrow on Tuesday, June 7. What is the next step? All will be revealed tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. EST at 100 shops across the country include Decatur’s very own Squash Blossom Boutique:

The only clue that’s been given is this statement on the TOMS website: “TOMS: Not just shoes anymore.” Stop by Squash Blossom tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. and discover the next chapter of TOMS shoes.

For the Decatur ArtWalk last Friday evening, Sammiches N’ Stuff hosted the Southeastern Photographic Society’s exhibition. The event was such a hit with Sammiches’ owners, the photographers and customers that it’s been decided that the exhibition will stay up through the end of June. If you didn’t get a chance to check out the work, stop by some time this month. Word on the street is that a couple of items have already been sold.
